Amazon, Sprint eye stores that RadioShack might exit

Amazon.com Inc., aiming to bolster its brick-and-mortar operations, has discussed acquiring some RadioShack Corp. locations after the electronics chain files for bankruptcy, two people with knowledge of the matter said. Amazon has considered using the RadioShack stores as showcases for the Seattle-based company’s hardware, as well as potential pickup and drop-off centers for online customers, said one of the people, who asked not to be named because the deliberations are private.

Largest Domino's franchisee buying nearly 40 area stores

A franchisee that started with three Domino's stores in South Mississippi 34 years ago is adding 73 stores in what is being called the largest Domino's U.S. acquisition. Glenn Mueller Sr. and his brother, Richard, opened Domino's on Feb. 6, 1981, in Gulfport.

Meijer wins Indiana tax case; ruling could set precedent for other appeals

Meijer’s recent legal victory in tax dispute over an assessment at one of its Indiana stores could have a ripple impact on similar cases across the Hoosier state. The Indiana Board of Tax Review ruled last month that the Michigan-based retailer’s store in Indianapolis should have been assessed in 2012 at the equivalent of $30 per square foot, instead of nearly three times the rate as Meijer was charged.

US construction spending rose 0.4 percent in December

U.S. construction spending accelerated in December as building activity increased for new houses and government-backed highways. The Commerce Department said recently that construction spending rose 0.4 percent in December. Total construction spending in 2014 increased 5.6 percent to $961 billion, with the gains slightly below the pace of 5.7 percent in 2013.

High-profile parcel along North Meridian corridor hits market

A prime, five-acre parcel along the North Meridian corridor near Interstate 465 is hitting the market with an asking price of $1 million per acre. The Tutwiler auto dealership operated on about seven acres north of the interstate until it closed in 2012.
