Duke Realty announces 2013 fourth quarter leasing activity in central Indiana

Inside Indiana business: Allison powering buses in Sochi
The Times of Northwest Indiana
An Indiana company played a critical role in the complex logistics of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. About 400 buses at the winter games were being powered by transmissions designed and manufactured by Indianapolis-based Allison Transmission Holdings Inc. Research and development on the transmissions were performed in the Marion County city, while manufacturing took place at Allison plants in Hungary and India.

REALTOR Magazine's 2014 Good Neighbor Awards open for nominations

Realtors have a long-standing tradition of aiding those in need, and many volunteer their time and energy to improving the lives of others in communities throughout the world. The National Association of Realtors recognizes those Realtors who demonstrate exceptional service through REALTOR Magazine’s Good Neighbor Awards, which is currently accepting applications.

Five winners will be announced in the November/December issue of REALTOR Magazine. Each winner will be recognized at the 2014 REALTORS Conference & Expo in New Orleans and will receive a $10,000 grant for his or her charity. Winners will also receive travel expenses to the conference and national and local media exposure for their cause. In addition to the winners, five honorable mentions will each receive a $2,500 grant.

Indiana lawmakers draw close on business tax deal

Indiana lawmakers appear close to approving a package of business tax cuts that represents only a fraction of what supporters sought at the beginning of the session. The House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Tax and Fiscal Policy advanced two separate measures that would cut the state’s corporate income tax and the state’s business equipment tax in certain cases. But a few key differences remain that will keep lawmakers negotiating to reach a compromise before their 2014 session ends next month.

3 firms compete to build Marion County criminal justice center

Three international corporations involved with large construction projects across the globe have been selected as finalists to build, manage and operate a proposed Marion County criminal justice center in a private-public arrangement with the city and county. The companies have built highways, hospitals, courthouses and colleges from Quebec to Queensland. They are now invited to submit bids to build a courthouse and jail — estimated at $200 million to $400 million — to replace the outdated and crowded facility at the City-County Building, 200 E. Washington St.

Influx of commercial real estate lending expected in 2014

After three years of momentum building in commercial property lending, analysts are projecting that institutional lenders will place what could be record amounts of capital into commercial real estate in 2014. Commercial property lending is fundamentally strong, and lenders still maintain disciplined underwriting standards, according to comments by Jones Lang LaSalle executives attending the Mortgage Bankers Association’s Commercial Real Estate Finance/Multifamily Housing Convention on Feb. 3.

Carmel considers $80 million development

A planned $80 million project in Carmel would bring a retirement community, apartments and retail to a stretch of Main Street near U.S. 31. The plans call for 422 luxury apartments, a retirement community with a mix of independent living, assisted and memory care and townhomes for sale and rent. There also will be retail space, surface and garage parking and an area for a future hotel.

Craft brewery on tap for Speedway's Main Street

A Shelbyville craft brewer whose beers are in dozens of restaurants, pubs and stores across Indiana is building a production brewery and tap room in Speedway. Daredevil Brewing Co.’s plans call for a 10,000-square-foot building to be constructed on a two-acre lot that it purchased at the southeast corner of West Main and Gilman streets.

Duke Realty breaks ground on 85,000-square-foot medical center in Indianapolis market

Two Indianapolis-headquartered companies – St.Vincent Carmel Hospital and commercial real estate firm Duke Realty – have broken ground for the 85,847-square-foot St. Vincent Women’s Center at 13420 N. Meridian in Carmel, Ind., about 30 minutes north of Indianapolis. The four-story facility, which will be located on the campus of St.Vincent Carmel Hospital and connected to the hospital and adjacent medical office buildings, will be developed, owned and managed by Duke Realty.

State Auto's Midtown HQ building on block

A prominent but half-empty headquarters building in Midtown owned by a major insurance carrier is on the block. Columbus, Ohio-based State Auto Insurance is seeking to sell the low-slung, three-story building or, at the very least, sublease the half that’s unoccupied. The property is listed for $9.1 million.

Chamber recommends IPS explore selling real estate

Indianapolis Public Schools should immediately consider selling five of its major buildings and work with the IndyGo bus service to transport students, according to an operational analysis of the school district spearheaded by the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber analysis, released recently, also encouraged IPS to lease unused space in its buildings to other schools and community groups, among other recommendations.

Geist residents want billboard removed

Geist residents want a billboard at 79th Street and Fall Creek Road removed. But that might not be so easy. Erecting the billboard was all legal, said owner Jeff Lee, and he has no plans to remove it. The area is zoned commercial and allows for such signs, which Indianapolis officials confirm.
