DTZ: Millennials driving urban growth

A managing director at DTZ says the growing desire of young professionals to live in urban areas is helping fuel a rebound in multiple commercial real estate sectors. Jon Owens was one of the presenters at the annual DTZ State of Real Estate event in Indianapolis. He says millennials moving to downtown Indianapolis will ultimately attract more employers, retailers and multi-family housing.

New report: Cross border demand and investment & shifting office space demand

In collaboration with the Canadian Real Estate Association, the CCIM Institute, the Institute of Real Estate Managers (IREM), and the National Association of REALTORS®, a survey was developed and deployed in the summer of 2014 to elicit responses from commercial practitioners in the U.S. and Canada with respect to two broad areas of interest: 1) observations with respect to international investment in commercial real estate in the U.S. and Canada, and 2) perceived changes in office space demand and utilization in the U.S. and Canada. Zillow and Truila finally merge, form Zillow Group

After a exhaustive seven-month anti-trust review by regulators, the Zillow-Truila merger was finalized Feb. 17. Zillow negotiated a $2.5 billion stock/swap merger and formed the Zillow Group that now includes Zillow, Truila, StreetEasy and HotPads. This merger created the largest online sales and rental market for residential property.

Growth in labor market leads to uptick in Indiana jobless rate

Indiana's unemployment rate has inched up for the second month in a row but that is not all bad news. Joblessness reached 6 percent in January, according to a report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, ticking up from the December rate of 5.8 percent. Officials cite growth in the labor force — an addition of 14,249 jobs and job seekers coming into the market — for the higher rate.

Indy developer, Old National plan $24 million real estate project
Indiana Business Journal
Evansville-based Old National Bank and an Indianapolis-based development company announced a $24 million real estate project in Lafayette. The five-story development will include 96 luxury apartments, a regional headquarters and branch office for the bank, and space for a restaurant or retail business.

Hendricks Commercial Properties makes big move in Indianapolis: buys the Century Building

It doesn't rank as Hendricks Commercial Properties' first Indiana purchase. But buying downtown Indianapolis' Century Building? That qualifies as a major splash. The Century Building is one of Indianapolis' iconic buildings, a 153,849-square-foot historic Class-A office building. When Hendricks acquired the building earlier this year for $14 million, then, it ranked as one of the most significant commercial deals of the young year here.
