Websites: Public accommodations?
National Association of REALTORS®
Two years ago a Massachusetts court ruled that Netflix, the giant video streaming service, is a place of public accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act because its website is “analogous” to a brick and mortar store. A California court that same year came to a different conclusion, saying the video service isn’t a place of physical accommodation because it has no physical location.

$20 million project on tap for Mapleton-Fall Creek area

A planned $20 million senior housing and retail project could help breathe new life into a blighted area north of downtown that’s sorely in need of investment. Mapleton-Fall Creek Development Corp. is partnering with local affordable housing developer BWI Development & Management Inc. to build the project.

NAR to FAA: Lift ban on drones
National Association of REALTORS®
The National Association of REALTORS® sent a letter recently to the Federal Aviation Administration asking the agency to consider permitting the use of drones, or Unmanned Aerial Vehicle technology, in real estate, arguing that the technology does not pose a threat to public safety. The FAA currently prohibits the use of drones for any commercial purpose, including capturing video or photographs to sell a home.

Contractor investing $1.6 million to create local headquarters near downtown

A construction manager’s plan to convert two adjacent buildings on North Meridian Street into its local headquarters represents the latest contribution to a subtle but continuing revitalization of the near-downtown corridor. Local contractor Messer Construction Co. bought the buildings south of Fall Creek Parkway on the east side of Meridian earlier this year and is moving there from near Shadeland Avenue and Interstate 69.

Recently, Hanning & Bean announced it would pull out of a nearly $100 million downtown project. Mayor Tom Henry says the city will select a new developer to move forward with the Ash Skyline Plaza, which includes a new headquarters for Ash Brokerage as well as parking and retail space.

MacAllister seeks $2.7 million tax break from city on headquarters project

MacAllister Machinery Co. Inc., the longtime distributor of Caterpillar equipment, is asking city officials for about $2.7 million in tax breaks on its massive new headquarters campus planned for the southeast side of Indianapolis. The project entails building and equipping an office and service complex on 133 acres at 6300 Southeastern Ave.

US commercial market enjoys strong recovery in quarter 3

According to CBRE Group, the U.S. commercial real estate market strengthened strongly across all property types in the third quarter of 2014, with the office sector delivering its best performance in eight years. "The real estate recovery clearly gained in strength in the third quarter as all property types saw notably improved demand trends," said Jon Southard, Managing Director of CBRE's Econometric Advisors group.

Developer seeks tax break for downtown hotel project
Indianapolis Business Journal
Developers planning a new downtown hotel are asking the city for a property-tax break on the project that could save them more than $650,000. A partnership of HRC Hotels LLC and Good Hospitality Services Inc. known as 110 Downtown Indy LLC plans to spend $10.5 million to buy and redevelop part of a historic building at 115 N. Pennsylvania St.
