This new 150-square-foot Paris space, designed by Paris-based Archiee, is the first brick and mortar shop of Japanese cosmetics brand En. Occupying an eighteenth-century building in the center of Paris, the shop is one of the newest additions to a crop of stunning skincare and beauty retailers popping up in cities around the world.
The space, which is designed to evoke a sense of stepping into an unfamiliar, extraordinary world, is comprised of two levels—a basement and ground floor—divided into four separate rooms. The street level features two minimalistic spaces, complete with rounded brass shelving, seating, and partitions—a reflection of the brand name, as “En” can mean beauty, circle, or connection in Japanese.

It’s no secret that the workplace today is evolving into a very different environment from that of the past. Today’s office is no longer just a desk or cubicle, but an actual space that blends the continuum of experiences that make up home, work, and play—and community. As a result, companies are exploring opportunities to build community within their organizations, as well as welcome and engage with those outside their own walls. When these organic-by-design connections happen, the workplace itself becomes a "community hub."

Galleria Rossana Orlandi is a mandatory Milan stop for design aficionados. The namesake owner opened the gallery and shop in 2002, inside a former tie factory on one of the city’s quiet residential streets. Through a series of refreshingly un-museumlike exhibitions mounted in the stylishly gritty, 19,000-square-foot space, most notably during the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, she gave early exposure to such international stars as Nacho Carbonell, Piet Hein Eek, Formafantasma, and Jaime Hayon. The three-story emporium encourages visitors to linger: They can wander through its labyrinthine rooms, sit in the greenery-filled courtyard, and even have dinner at Aimo e Nadia BistRo, Orlandi’s restaurant located next door.

The 303-room project effortlessly follows through with citizenM’s DNA of an 80 percent focus on highly transitional and functional public areas (or “hybrid spaces” as concrete dubs them) and 20 percent on spotlighting local cultures.
“It’s context driven,” explains Sofie Ruytenberg, head of identity at concrete. “We want people to know and feel that they are waking up in Shanghai, New York, or London.

Small talk is all about short, casual, light conversation. More often than not, it happens with someone you don’t know that well, which is exactly why so many people fear it. But it’s a skill you’ll need if you’re looking to continue moving up the corporate ladder. Here are a few ways to get started.

Have you ever had a goal that you thought was unattainable? How'd you feel? Demoralized is the word that comes to mind. Yet companies continue to set what they call "stretch goals," thinking that if they set the target slightly out of the reach of an employee, employees will miraculously muster up the energy to hit these targets. This sort of thinking is entirely wrong. If you're like most people, you look at a task that seems like a stretch and think, "I stand a better chance of reaching the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro than I do scaling this goal. Why bust my butt on something I know is out of my reach?"
