For the Lodges on Vashon, hotelier Jena Thornton decided to take a slightly different approach when creating this hotel — let's call it a mashup of boutique accommodations with the autonomy of an Airbnb rental.
"People's expectations of travel have shifted thanks to Airbnb and the sharing economy," Thornton tells Gray Magazine. "As long as you've built a great product, guests are now okay with some DIY aspects."

The Christus Spohn Hospital, Corpus Christi, Texas and the University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City are being designed by Perkins+Will. Both projects have made resilient design a must-have and chose a standard called RELi to guide the way.

Boutique Design
The famed Eden Roc Miami Beach has unveiled a $250 million renovation that includes the addition of a 206-key Nobu hotel-within-a-hotel designed by Rockwell Group’s David Rockwell. Updates to the 418-key Eden Roc, a landmark tower originally created by architect Morris Lapidus in the 1950s, include a redesign of the 16-seat lobby bar by Rockwell and guest room renovations spearheaded by Studio PCH.

The challenge for design firm AE7 was to create a unique office space for numo, a fintech incubator located in Pittsburgh, that would stimulate creative collaboration among its employees. AE7 had already designed several offices in the region — for companies such as Duolingo and JD Palatine — though this design aimed to stand out. AE7 offered numo a graceful design that connects the user experience below with the fluid ceiling above.
