"Resimercial" design is a somewhat overused term that defines the incorporation of the residential look to a commercial space. As companies look to make workspaces a more inviting place for employees to get work done, we’re seeing elements of residential and hospitality design splashed across design boards and requested by clients. We know that we want a more comfortable feel for the office environment and we have a fairly keen understanding of what that looks like."

Metropolis
It may be already a decade old, but One Haworth Center — the Haworth corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility in Holland, Michigan — still seems new. Sunlight cascades through the soaring atrium that spans the building’s north flank, flooding 300,000 square feet of office space, spilling down the sprawling entryway staircase into the ground-floor café. Haworth’s corporate headquarters has been looking even fresher since 2017, with its interiors redone by Patricia Urquiola.

Any restaurant worth its salt these days shouldn’t just taste and look good — it should do good, too. Or that’s the idea behind Minneapolis’s Fig + Farro, whose vegetarian menu is winning as many raves as its décor, courtesy of Ellen Hughes. “We wanted the vibe to be multicultural, but cohesive,” says restaurant co-founder Michelle Courtright; she describes it as "a mix of textiles and textures so you aren’t sure if you are in a coffee shop in Istanbul or a bookstore in Paris."

Chain Store Age
Chick-fil-A has opened its largest location ever, on Fulton Street in the heart of Manhattan’s Financial District. It is the chain’s fourth location in the Big Apple. At only 15 feet wide, the space is the chain’s most narrow location. So the company built up. The restaurant’s five levels include two levels of kitchen space for food prep, and three levels of dining areas.
The design team took advantage of an open courtyard behind the building by adding a large window in the back of the restaurant. Since Chick-fil-A has the whole building, it also brought in natural light through a skylight.

Sid Lee Architecture was hired to design a new, four story office for Electronic Arts in Montréal. The office is designed to house game creators, who the company considers “highly qualified artisans,” therefore, they wanted a space that reflected that. They also focused on designing an environment that would spark creativity by including areas like a gallery, fireplace, writing desks, music, a library, lounge chairs, a workbench, recording tools, and a central seating area, to name a few.
