The history of the bagel, like the parboiled treat itself, has a few holes, but it’s generally thought to have originated in Eastern Europe and been perfected in New York. Recent refinement has come courtesy of Bagel Yard, which knew it needed a fresh look when importing its Montreal-style take on the bagel to the surfing community of Dubai’s Umm Suqeim neighborhood. To do so, they brought in the London and Dubai-based firm H2R Design, which has lately been making a name for itself throughout Egypt. The 970-square-foot space, explains co-founder and partner Hasan Roomi, needed to “represent the intricate detail that is put into the bagel-making process within its design.”

Women-focused coworking concept The Wing has added its first Midwest location in the Fulton Market section of Chicago. CallisonRTKL collaborated on the design of the open space with Laetitia Gorra, who serves as the senior interior design manager of The Wing’s new in-house design team. Wright’s iconic geometric forms and muted tones are referenced throughout the 8,500-square-foot space alongside a medley of custom, midcentury-style furniture. Hexagonal floor tiles inject a wide color range in tandem with the color-coded bookshelves that line the walls.

Singapore’s Jewel Changi Airport is regularly voted as the best airport in the world, a title it just secured for the seventh consecutive year in spite of—or perhaps because of—its frenetic pace of expansion over the past decade. The most ambitious of these expansion plans is a hub called Jewel that’s not quite entertainment complex, not quite botanical garden. Jewel features the world’s largest indoor waterfall made up of tessellated glass, an almost comically long list of entertainment features and amenities, and an indoor garden where more than 200 species of plants are fed by the waterfall’s mists.

Young hospital patients with medically complex issues, such as traumatic brain injury or severe Down syndrome, often can’t be discharged until their homes and families are prepared to provide the ongoing care they’ll require. This generally results in patients waiting in an expensive pediatric or neonatal intensive care unit environment.
One alternative to that situation is Almost Home Kids (AHK), a decade-old program that partners with healthcare organizations to provide a homelike setting that supports transitional care for such children.

Entrepreneur
What separates successful entrepreneurs from the wannabes is that a real entrepreneur is so committed to making his or her idea a reality that there is no Plan B. They are locked in. When you are locked in, you figure it out. You leave no stone unturned. You don’t give up. And you find the people that have as much passion for your idea as you do to help you make it into something with staying power.

Truth is, you can have the best strategy in the world, but a negative culture prevents strategy execution. That's why culture eats strategy for breakfast.
These great people leaders are champions, protectors, and "caretakers of the culture." Because they know it matters for competitive advantage. What exactly do they do differently?

Branding has become big business among interior design professionals as they strive to get heard above the noise and stand out in an increasingly crowded marketplace. There are nearly as many interior design "brands" out there as there are interior designers, but the most effective of these—the ones that create the most buzz and attract the most business—have one word in common: "Only." Nothing differentiates your design firm more dramatically and spells out your specialness more effectively than that word.
