James Beard Award-winning chef Linton Hopkins has opened his latest restaurant, and it's a looker. The restaurant's design's goal was to create "an inviting, internationally inspired destination, visually linked to the garden." Glass walls bring the garden's greenery into the restaurant and that's complimented by dark and light woods, cream, and beige. The decor and furniture make for a snazzy mid-century modern style, but are subtle enough that they don't suggest a period concept.

When Super Chix founder Nick Ouimet decided his Texas-based fast casual needed a new design, he and his team first considered their own knowledge of the brand. "We're a classed-up chicken joint, so we asked ourselves, what does that look like?” Ouimet says. The result was a design with subtle nods to chicken coops and eggs, like arrow-shaped directional signs and mercury-tipped light bulbs. The focal point is a textured white brick wall with hand-drawn images depicting the concept's many specially sourced, high-quality ingredients. It's modern and fundamentally cool, but it never strays far from the down-home roots of its star dish.

As a hands-on way to encourage wellness, more and more health systems are on a mission to show and tell their communities how to eat well. Introducing demonstration kitchens, some with mini-auditoriums, has become an innovative way for hospitals to engage the public in disease prevention and management. Interactive classes incorporate food samplings, practical tips, and take-home recipes. Some classes hone in on special diets – diabetic, weight-control, heart-healthy – while others give children a head start in learning how to assemble nutritious and delicious meals.

"Joey Healy's work is all about geometry, so we wanted to incorporate this theme into his space," said designer Tina Apostolou. For a cosmetics industry that's all about getting that perfect shape for the shape of the individual’s face, geometry should play a big part in the design of a salon, so hexagonal mirrors, angular planters, and a custom-designed reception desk were placed throughout the salon.

All that chatter about the digital universe and the demise of books. Nothing could be further from the truth... at least in Bucharest, Romania. Hotels across the country are making sure their “Do Not Disturb” signs are getting the point across with flair. No longer are the signs just plain printed black and white door hangers. Now they come in different sizes, shapes, and fonts and with cheeky messages like the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego’s “Not Now. My Ego Needs a Rest.” Hotel managers say the signs are one way they can distinguish themselves from other properties that are vying for guests who increasingly want to stay in places offering interesting design and local experiences. Younger travelers, especially millennials who are in their 20s and 30s, tend to pay attention to such detail, they say.

The new office of "aTOKYO co., ltd.," production manager of Tokyo International Art Fair, is located on the fourth floor of a nondescript building at the intersection of ikura minato-ku. The interior is comprised of three boxes that give structure to the 100-square-metered space. A concept was developed comparing the office to an event space where the everyday routines of work are put on display.
