Metropolis
Across all generations, people claim to want to support the environment but continue to partake in practices like fast fashion—buying inexpensive clothing that lasts only a few wears—or drinking their coffee from disposable cups (Starbucks uses an estimated 8,000 of them a minute). In the interiors industry, this gap becomes a bit of a balancing act: How do you specify responsibly while acknowledging the demand for flexible design?

At a time when everyone in the world is searching for the best way to come out of this current economic situation in one piece, perhaps we should consider not WHAT to do, but HOW we do it. Facing an increasing need for inpatient and outpatient capacity and to prepare for future growth and expansion, Inspira Health (Mullica Hill, New Jersey) tapped Array Advisors (Washington, D.C.), the healthcare consulting arm of Array Architects, to conduct an investigation of their existing Woodbury, N.J. facility to understand the impact it has on the entire system. Casa Teo is a minimalist boutique hotel created by famed Mexican restaurateur Enrique Olvera of Pujol. The space is situated above the former location of Pujol, which previously encompassed the production kitchen and private dining room for the restaurant.
The space is meant to encourage creativity and connectivity to a city vibrant with history and culture. It is to no surprise that the kitchen occupies most of the interior, serving as not only a dining area but a communal space to host workshops and conversations.

Ted Moudis Associates has designed the new workplace for Chicago-based G2, a fast-growing, peer-to-peer review engine. Abandoning all private offices, G2 tasked the design team with establishing an appropriate ratio of private rooms -- including conferencing space, phone booths and break-away zones -- to balance the abundance of open workstations. Each of the private, heads-down areas were expertly outfitted to accommodate confidentiality concerns without sacrificing sightlines or brightness within the space.

Since April 11, Oakland has been rolling out street closures to cars on 74 miles (nearly 10 percent) of its streets. The idea is to reclaim part of our public space, so that Oaklanders, who are otherwise legally stuck inside, can walk, run, rollerskate, bike, or do whatever other movement boosts their mood and helps them stay healthy with more adequate distance than sidewalks afford.
