Built in 1927 as a veal market in Budapest, The Máriássy House went through a number of uses over the years, including as a car maintenance garage and a multi-use office building, before WING took ownership in 2004. The Hungarian real estate developer needed new headquarters and brought on Ferenc Schüller to transform the interior into an open office space. Fourteen years later, WING has hired LAB5 architects for an update, as the way the company works had changed over time. The updated, loft-like layout includes common spaces, a co-working setup, a lounge, flexible workstations, and various plant structures.

Belgian architect Vincent Van Duysen completed his first hotel project. August, a former Augustinian cloister turned 44-room hotel, is housed within five structures and celebrates history and Flemish culture in Antwerp’s Green Quarter.
Paying homage to the structural integrity and spirituality of the former cloister while also crafting a unique visual identity suited to a contemporary hotel posed the greatest challenge to Van Duysen. What results is informed by the strong existing aesthetic of the nunnery and adjacent townhouses that make up the hotel’s public areas and guest rooms.

When a financial services company needed new offices in Greenwich, Connecticut, its executives wanted the design to embody the firm’s focus on developing long-term client relationships. The headquarters’ ambience, they decided, should not only continue to look fresh as those relationships matured, but also include nods to hospitality to make clients in a jittery financial market feel comfortable. “The architect, Dan Radman, had developed a layout that fostered a strong connection between reception and the board room and another conference room, which are client-centered spaces,” says Lucy Harris, principal of her eponymous design firm.

Think about the best leader you’ve ever had at any point in your life. It might be your current boss; it could be a volunteer coordinator from college. It might even be your high school football coach. They embraced the characteristics of a capable and inspiring leader, no matter their profession. The task of identifying leaders challenges every company. That’s why it’s important to encourage every member of your team to think like a leader, no matter what job title he carries. If you wait to coach someone on leadership until they eventually occupy a managerial position, you’ll be too late. You should be teaching your employees to be leaders from day one.
