The interior boasts skylights and large windows that allow natural daylight to enter and fill the space. A large moss-covered wall brings an organic element into the industrial interior.

Physical place-branding has always been important, but at this moment, twenty years into the internet-generated digital age, it matters more than ever. Today, ideas, businesses, and relationships could live solely online, operating in a digital capacity only, but that’s not the direction most companies are headed. We are seeing the swing toward remote work of the first half of the decade boomerang back toward in-person collaboration at many workplaces. Leaders are realizing the irreplicable value of face-to-face collaboration and the resulting boost to their business’s output and success.

The expert eye of Interior Design Hall of Fame member Anda Andrei returns to New Jersey with Asbury Lanes, her follow-up project to the iStar–developed Asbury hotel a few yards away, a collaboration with Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture and Design that’s turned the beach town into a destination. The same team reassembled to bring the 1960’s bowling alley — legendary for its live music, late nights, and, of course, lanes — to the 21st century while retaining its rocker patina. Exterior repairs included white-washing original brick and restoring neon signage.

It was 1965 when Ted Turner founded Turner Broadcasting System. In 1979, he purchased acres of land for the site of one of the company’s Atlanta headquarters. Today, Turner, as it’s now called, counts CNN and the Cartoon Network among its assets and is led by John Martin. Coming on as chairman and CEO in 2014, Martin aspired to revolutionize TV while also moving Turner toward new media. “Just as Turner is on a mission to reimagine TV, the campus should better foster the culture of innovation, creativity, and excellence that started here decades ago,” Martin says. Such was the gauntlet thrown down at Rapt Studio.

Studio Allston, a 117-key, art-centric hotel in Boston, is now open to the public. The Davis Cos., Spot On Ventures, and hotel management firm Highgate worked with local architecture firm Dyer Brown to restore and redesign the 1960s-era building.
Twelve contemporary artists were selected to create murals in each guestroom. Wallpaper in standard rooms features one-of-a-kind designs and five of the hotel’s 10 suites were designed as immersive works of art. Most of the displays throughout the hotel are pieces created by local artists and will be rotated regularly in a first-floor gallery.

Entrepreneur
Starting your own business is about more than just doing what you love — it's about doing it on your own terms. So, though you may have started out handling everything from marketing to sales as your company grows, you need to spend less time in the weeds in order to focus on the big picture. The answer, of course, is delegation.
