From offices to pool houses to lighting collections, New York-based design and branding studio ICRAVE does it all. One of the company’s latest projects is the completion of the interiors for the Serafina Beach Hotel, a stylish property embodying the sun and surf culture in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In collaboration with San Juan-based LA Architects, ICRAVE stripped the building down and remodeled everything, including the building’s systems, facade, and pool deck areas. The team took inspiration from the views of the Atlantic Ocean and neighboring Laguna del Condado, as well as the trendy Condado district, to give the hotel its fresh new facelift.

It all started with Shark Tank. Founded in 2012, Bouqs is an online florist giving new meaning to the oft-bandied phrase, farm to table. In this case, it’s flower farm to cocktail table — or maybe a desk. Streamlining operations to eschew middle men gives the grower partners greater revenue.
Uprooting Venice origins for its growing staff of 60, the firm relocated to a 14,000-square-foot brick and glass bow-truss building in Marina del Rey, California. Enviable for the bones, but with inherent challenges. Ultimately, they posed no sweat to Wolcott designer Andie Chang.

The Okura Tokyo is set to replace the former Hotel Okura Tokyo in September 2019 with a unique blend of traditional and contemporary luxury. Leading the charge of the redesign is designer Yoshio Taniguchi, whose father Yoshiro Taniguchi crafted the Hotel Okura Tokyo’s iconic lobby.
The original Hotel Okura Tokyo opened in 1962. Legacy decorations from the original hotel will grace the new lobby of the Okura Prestige Tower, including hexagonal Okura Lantern ceiling lights, lacquered tables and chairs arranged like plum flowers, the world map and clock displaying global time zones, and standing paper lamps.

Six years ago, William Chan won the President’s Design Award, Singapore’s top interior design accolade. It was for an apartment featuring a glossy black volume in the center of the floor plate containing a kitchen, bathrooms, and a bomb shelter. It was on the strength of this explosive project that first-time hotel investor Eighteen M approached Chan’s studio, Spacedge Designs, with the task of turning the decrepit Dragon Court Hotel in the city’s Chinatown neighborhood into stylish accommodations for urban-minded millennial travelers.

Chain Store Age
One of the most debated causes of the recent retail closure epidemic is that of earlier over-expansion in the decades that preceded it. According to the International Council of Shopping Centers, the number of shopping malls grew by over 300 percent from 1970 to 2016. As mall counts grew, so too did store counts for their specialty retail and department store tenants.
Many retailers (and their design or architecture partners) were challenged with quickly creating and replicating a physical brand experience that would literally allow them access to new markets.

Wide in diameter, this cylindrical design allows sound waves to bounce back-and-forth within the circular body, and in turn mitigates noise. Concealed inside the body, a powerful light source emits warm, pleasant light.

A first impression is often built on appearance. And, sadly, this is especially true for women in business. For this reason, I recommend women create a neutral appearance, one that does not distract or detract from their authority. Opt for minimal accessories, clothing that is not too revealing, and a professional dress code — an appearance that says "listen to me," and not "look at me." Similarly, a strong physical "command presence" communicates you are in control. First, stand up straight, with feet slightly apart, chest open, shoulders back, and chin up.

The word "confront" has acquired such a negative connotation. When someone is described as confrontational, you think of an argumentative person, or a critical, whiny person. Someone who enjoys "picking a fight," or is a bully that enjoys beating others down. It doesn’t need to be that way. Confront only means to face head-on, directly, and unequivocally. This is often healthier than passive-aggressive actions that some managers take to avoid confronting unacceptable behavior.
