During the day, a unique Amsterdam design studio looks like a typical workspace. But at 6 p.m., someone turns a key, and all of the desks suddenly lift up into the air, with computers and paperwork attached. The floor clears, and the space turns into something new. Unlike some other offices that are designed to tempt employees to stay and work longer, this design forces an automatic work-life balance.

Herman Miller uses Chicago-based platform in call for unique designs

Chicago-based Unbranded Designs is launching a partnership in which legendary furniture company Herman Miller Inc. will consider unique office concepts from independent designers. Unbranded Designs is a platform on which designers share furniture-related concepts and connect with manufacturers for possible production. Herman Miller is hosting a challenge, Designing for the New Office Nomads, on the platform, calling for solutions to address mobility within office spaces where employees don't have dedicated desks or access to private space.

The 2014 DBA Charge Out Rates and Salary Survey shows that 80 percent of DBA member consultancies surveyed said their business was growing or stable. The report also shows that 76 percent of consultancies anticipate a growth in income next year and 69 percent intend to take on more staff to cope with demand.
