MASAE Takes Atlanta By Storm...
MASAE

ASAE’s 2013 annual meeting recently wrapped up setting a 5 year high for the number of association professionals in attendance. The Mid-Atlantic SAE (MASAE) had a strong contingent in Atlanta with healthy representation from both the professional and associate member categories.

MASAE held a special dinner on Sunday night during the conference. It was a chance for the Mid-Atlantic community to get together and socialize before the evening’s reception schedule kicked into high gear.

The chance to network with colleagues is one of the top values of being a part of MASAE. As association professionals outside of the major “hubs” of DC, Chicago and New York City, the ability to connect with peers is even more important.

Missed MASAE in Atlanta? Make plans to join us this December at the Revel in Atlantic City for our annual meeting. Visit www.midatlatnic-sae.org periodically for more information.

6 tips to magnetize your association's website
By Doreen Ashton Wagner and Jeff Chabot
Search engine optimization is important for ensuring that prospective members, sponsors and other stakeholders can easily find your organization online. With search engines now including social media into their algorithms, how your users feel about your website is increasingly important to how it's found. The more users like and recommend your website on social media, the more popular — and higher-ranked — your site will be.

Making the most of social media: Using LinkedIn for associations

Most social media savvy professionals already have a LinkedIn account, and may have even used it to do a little personal networking. Why CEOs should do less, better
CEO.com
Management guru Peter Drucker was the first to express the difference between doing things right and doing right things. Naturally, corporate boards and CEOs want their companies doing things right. That's the proof of a well-managed organization. According to Drucker, doing things right is management, doing right things is leadership. Put another way, doing things right is operational, doing right things is strategic. Strategic leadership is the window to strategic change, the critical forerunner to strategic advantage.

How many meetings is too many meetings?
MemberClicks
Meetings are unavoidable in an association. Large group meetings; national meetings; small committee meetings; board meetings — they all have an essential function for your association and are absolutely essential. But are they? It's easy to get meeting-ed out. Plus, when there are a ton of meetings, it could prove to be a time commitment issue for some members and that could drive away participation and engagement. We don't want that, so how many meetings is too many?

Successful leadership requires 6 critical resources
Forbes
Successful leadership is a by-product of those resources that you are able to access throughout the course of your career. Resources that are not given to you, but rather earned as a result of hard work, sacrifices, respect from your peers and career coaches, and the failures that taught you lessons along the way. Successful leaders are extremely aware of how to detect, enable and maximize their most critical resources — and they know exactly how and when to use them.

The Wi-Fi wars continue
Successful Meetings
The lifeblood of our digital society is the Internet, particularly Wi-Fi wireless connectivity. We are quickly reaching the point where that connectivity is going to be as necessary to a meeting as the meeting room itself. It’s not just social media that uses up bandwidth these days. Events are incorporating streaming video into everything from presentations to training sessions, and using instant polling apps to involve audiences in presentations as they are happening. All of that social media is not just extraneous chatter, but part of a content delivery strategy to get participants involved in and excited about events. And that is putting a lot more pressure on hotels and other venues that want to host those meetings.

8 Web verbs associations should adopt
Midcourse Corrections
In the next 20 years, eight dramatic technology trends will influence our connected world. We are already watching how these forces are shaping modern Web culture. Beyond satisfying, delighting and just selling
The Demand Perspective
In his book, "The Hidden Wealth of Customers: Realizing the Untapped Value of Your Most Important Asset," customer strategy expert Bill Lee argues that by focusing on sales only, companies fail to identify and leverage the greater value of their most important asset — their customer — that can drive their growth in today's economy. We reached the very same conclusion in our research and work with associations.
