Kyle Fernley joins MASAE board of directors

Fernley & Fernley, Inc. is proud to announce that Kyle Fernley is now a member of the board of directors of the Mid-Atlantic Society of Association Executives. Fernley is executive director for three professional societies and one trade association. He is also Director of Premier Meetings by Fernley, the meeting planning division of Fernley & Fernley. Fernley has been an active member of MASAE for several years including serving on the Marketing Task Force and will participate in a panel discussion at this year’s MASAE Annual Conference & Expo in Atlantic City, December 3-4.

Is your association providing education?
Midcourse Corrections
Is education in your organization’s mission statement? If not specifically mentioned, it’s probably in your strategic plan. Isn’t it? If it’s in your organization’s top five goals, do you at least allocate 20 percent of your budget to education? If education is in your mission, is your education budget in line with your mission? Are your education staff and programs aligned with your mission or strategic plan? Sharing information is not education. That’s just passing along reports and stats. Authentic education leads to learning. Learning requires thinking. Learning requires actively doing something…not just reading or listening.

Organizational change happening? Don't forget your bylaws

Bylaws are a set of rules that provide the framework for your organization, but they are sometimes overlooked when organizational change happens. Imagine an event that happens frequently that is a change to the membership structure of your association. After a strategic discussion, your board decides to add a new membership category that currently does not exist. It's not as easy as a board vote and will require an amendment to your current bylaws.
