Self-Esteem: Tending to the Roots and Branches
Counseling Today
Self-esteem is tied into nearly everything, from career and relationship issues to anxiety and other mental health challenges, that bring clients through the counselor's door. The need for acceptance is part of who we are as human beings, so it is only natural for self-esteem to be central to decision-making and behaviors that counselors see in clients.
Improving self-esteem involves exploring and dismantling unhealthy self-talk, values and beliefs that clients have internalized, often without realizing it.

Religious Value Conflicts in Counseling: 5 Profile Types
ACA Publications
Resolving value conflicts in the counseling setting can be challenging, especially when conflicts are rooted in the religious values of the counselor. New research published in the journal Counselor Education and Supervision examined counselors' strategies for reaching an affirming stance when counseling LGBTQ+ clients, ultimately identifying five counselor profile types: the Bracketer, the Seeker, the Clinician, the Advocate and the Progressive. For each type, the authors recommend potential areas for growth. Overall, the findings counter the belief that all counselors of faith should navigate religious-based conflicts the same way, suggesting instead that individual perspectives and preferences be considered in counselor training, supervision and practice.
Note: Full-text content from Counselor Education and Supervision is free to Association for Counselor Education and Supervision members by logging into the ACA website, and available on a pay-per-view basis to nonmembers through the Wiley Online Library.

These applications mimic in-person encounters by allowing users to see the people they're communicating with. However, unlike in-person communications, these programs often also show users a video of themselves. Instead of catching the occasional glimpse of themselves in a mirror, people are now looking at themselves for hours each day.
