Breakfast-inspired snacks among hottest trends in food

In 2015, turmeric, vanilla bean and cruciferous vegetables — think cauliflower and broccoli — will get their turn in the food spotlight, some in surprising and unexpected ways. That's according to the food trendspotters at the 40th edition of the Winter Fancy Food Show, which took place in San Francisco, California recently. The trade show is used as a launchpad for many of the gourmet and premium foodstuffs which eventually make it to retailers across the U.S. and Canada.

Hardric repeats as La Reese-Gaule Membership Award recipient

The National Association of Concessionaires (NAC), is proud to announce that Tish Hardric, Sales Manager/ Movie Foods Division at Great Western Products, has once again captured the annual Krystal La Reese-Gaule Membership Award for 2014. The annual award is presented to the member who sponsors the most new NAC memberships during the most recent fiscal year. A year ago, Hardric and Adam Gottlieb, ACS of CCSI were named the co-recipients of the inaugural award.

The Concession & Hospitality Expo will take place on July 21-24 at the Hyatt Regency Cincinnati and the adjacent Duke Energy Convention Center. The 2015 Trade Show is at the Duke Energy Center right across the street from the Hyatt Regency Cincinnati and will be held on Wednesday, July 22 (1 p.m. – 4 p.m.) and Thursday, July 23 (2 p.m. – 4 p.m.) and is open to full and tabletop displays.

Bert Nathan Award nominations open for 2015

The National Association of Concessionaires is calling upon the NAC membership to submit candidates for the 2015 Bert Nathan Memorial Award by Jan. 23. The presentation will take place at CinemaCon which will be held April 20-23 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Click here for nomination forms.

Hawaiian Host to acquire Mauna Loa from Hershey

Hawaiian Host Inc. has announced that it has entered into an agreement with The Hershey Co. to acquire the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corp. Hawaiian Host is one of Hawaii's leading brands and the originator of chocolate-covered macadamias with its history dating back to 1927, it said. When the acquisition is completed, Mauna Loa will join Hawaiian Host as a subsidiary.

Chocolates whose intricate architecture is designed to tweak taste buds

Renowned Japanese design house Nendo created this singular box of goodies for Maison & Objet, a fancy furniture show in Paris. The idea was to experiment with one of the lesser explored aspects of the chocolate experience: texture.

Recoiling at chocolate price hikes? Cocoa grind slumps in developed markets

Weak fourth quarter cocoa grinds in developed markets suggest that consumers have reacted negatively to wholesale chocolate price hikes from the major brands, according to an analyst. In recently released figures, the cocoa grind in Europe reached its lowest level for nine years and North American cocoa processing fell for the first time in two years.
