Verizon Center executive chef Kevin Holler shows up to every game in uniform. With his chef whites and an absurdly tall toque above his 6 foot 1 inch frame, his height rivals that of the Washington Wizards players on the court. Holler roams around the 200 level, or Club Level, of the stadium like it's his own personal bistro, greeting employees and guests. In a way, it is: He oversees the Club Level's four themed concession stands and a full-service restaurant. On a busy night, he and his 60-cook team could serve 5,000 or 6,000 people. More

Join Anita Watts, President of Cinema Solutions and NAC Board member, as she moderates, "Concession Legislative & Public Policy Issues: A Panel Discussion." The event will take place on Wednesday, April 17 from 9 to 10:15 a.m. The interactive session will feature an outstanding panel of industry professionals and address topics of interest including New York City drink size restrictions, menu board labeling, and restrictions on toy prizes with kid's meals, and trends in food, beverage, nutrition and labeling issues. Panel participants include: Stefanie Miller, Group Vice President, The Coca Cola Company; Don Lear, Senior Marketing Manager, The Hershey Company; Robert Shimmin, Vice President Food & Beverage, Cinemark USA; Robert Perkins III, President, Act V Theaters and Todd Halstead, Deputy Director of Government Affairs, National Association of Theatre Owners. CinemaCon is slated for April 15-18 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Marianne Abiaad new NAC West Coast RVP

NAC President John Evans, Jr. has appointed Marianne Abiaad, Executive Vice President of Royal Corporation of Santa Fe Springs, Calif., as the new West Coast Regional Vice President on the NAC Board of Directors. Abiaad will be replacing Arthur Anderson of Odell's who during his lengthy tenure on the NAC Board organized and hosted numerous Regional Educational Programs that provided added value to the NAC membership in the western U.S. Abiaad's first board meeting will be on Sunday, April 14 prior to CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

The drought's impact on food prices

Despite the warnings that last summer's historic drought would drive up the cost of food, prices rose only 2.6 percent in 2012, down from 3.7 percent growth in 2011, according to the USDA. Inflation slowed nearly 50 percent for food bought at grocery stores, while it jumped for food bought at restaurants. Prices in 2012 rose significantly for beef, poultry, fats and oils, but pork prices stayed basically flat and prices for fresh vegetables dropped. More
