The desserts first grew in popularity — according to Business Insider — in 2000, when Carrie and Miranda ate cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery in an episode of "Sex and the City." Sprinkles Cupcakes was one of the first (if not the first) cupcake bakeries in the country when it debuted in 2003, but its expansion has since slowed as people chase after newer, more exciting trends.

NAC names co-recipients of Krystal La Reese-Gaule Membership Award

The National Association of Concessionaires (NAC), is proud to announce that Tish Hardric of Great Western Products and Adam Gottlieb, ACS of CCSI have been named the co-recipients of the inaugural Krystal La Reese-Gaule Membership Award. The annual award is presented to the member who sponsors the most new NAC memberships during the most recent fiscal year.

NAC names Paradis as New Regional Vice President

The National Association of Concessionaires (NAC) has announced Brent Paradis, ECM, has joined the Board of Directors as Regional Vice President of Eastern Canada. Paradis currently serves as Senior Manager Food and Beverage at BMO Field and Ricoh Coliseum for Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment.

Concessions Industry Data Initiative Survey

In response to repeated inquiries for deeper information about the Concessions and Hospitality industry by members, industry, press, regulators and legislators, The National Association of Concessionaires (NAC) is undergoing an Industry Data Initiative and is asking for participants in the industry to take a very brief online survey.

In order to achieve maximum results and assure impartial and confidential credibility, Florida International University (FIU) is partnering with NAC to conduct the survey and analyze the data. Here is a link to the survey.

California drought will lead to higher food prices

San Joaquin Valley farmers are idling thousands of acres, bulldozing hundreds of trees and shifting production of some crops out of the area as the state enters its third straight year of dry weather. The lack of rain and snow has depleted reservoirs and reduced streams and rivers to drastically low levels. The parched conditions have forced farmers to make critical decisions about how best to use what little water they have.

Pretty packaging beats McDonald's wrappings

It turns a 2007 Stanford study — which saw a lot of media attention for suggesting food wrapped in a branded McDonald's wrapper tastes better to children — on its head. Professor Charlene Elliott, University of Calgary, told Food Production Daily that children prefer the taste of foods wrapped in decorative packaging, and aesthetics may play a stronger role than branding.
