America's 10 best hot dogs
Yahoo via The Daily Meal
The hot dog is one of the few foods that's nearly impossible to screw up. You heat it through, tuck it into a bun, squirt on some mustard, and call it lunch. But there's a big difference between not screwing something up and turning it into a paradigm-shifting, transcendental dining experience. And there are lots of hot dog stands, restaurants, and drive-ins out there that have the power to change your life.

ASSOCIATION NEWS

NAC to give back to the community at New Orleans Convention
NAC
The National Association of Concessionaires (NAC) is pleased to announce that its members will be providing an important community service for New Orleans-based soldiers who are on leave or preparing to return to duty. The event will take place on the last day of the 2013 NAC Convention and Trade Show to be held at the Hilton Riverside New Orleans from 8 - 10 a.m.

Since the last NAC Convention, several members have expressed a desire to incorporate a community service project into the annual gathering. The Association believes it has found just the right event that fits the Association and the Show. In conjunction with Projects with Purpose, a New Orleans-based group that brings volunteers and non-profits together, we have agreed to host a "Snack Packing Event" which will see our NAC volunteers pack up to 500 individual gallon storage bags full of candy, popcorn, etc. The bags will be filled with the many great products that will be seen at the NAC Trade Show, so exhibitors and members are requested to provide extra product to fulfill the need for the local USO.

Making the rounds: Attending trade shows expands your knowledge
Film Journal
Anita Watts writes, "Just coming off the high from CinemaCon, I am reminded why we attend trade shows. Our industry, like others, is always evolving. The last three years have been preoccupied with the digital conversion. This year the National Association of Theatre Owners' trade show and convention in general were focused on wider issues and ideas, and it was a welcome change."

PepsiCo bows beverage fountain that lets consumers mix-n-match flavors
AdvertisingAge
Forget the days when you had just a handful of choices at the soda fountain. Soon PepsiCo will begin testing "Pepsi Touch Tower 1.0" as part of a series of new fountain rollouts, according to Beverage Digest. The device packs a lot of punch in a small space. Touch Tower 1.0 is a small counter-top unit with a digital touch screen. Rather than the half a dozen or so picks consumers had in the past, this device will offer nearly 100 possible flavor combinations, including as many as eight PepsiCo brands.

Rewind: 1954 ad shows M&Ms characters go for a chocolatey swim
AdvertisingAge
VideoBriefBefore they played the piano, sang, danced or appeared in Super Bowl ads, the M&Ms characters went for a little swim. The little guys first made a splash way back in 1954, when Mr. Plain and Mr. Peanut jumped into a chocolate pool and rinsed off in showers that gave them their shell coating. Another early ad in the campaign begins with the "melts in your mouth, not in your hand" slogan before showing yet another dip in the pool. The now-famous tagline was just gaining traction at the time.
