Chocolate bars sales soar, as innovation remains strong

Perhaps one of the best traits the chocolate bar industry has to offer is its maintenance of old favorites, coupled with innovative and exciting new flavors that give even the bravest of taste buds a run for their money. The year 2015 has, so far, been no exception to that tendency. The chocolate bar industry has certainly seen its days of glory — which are only continuing, as chocolate sales increased 2.46 percent — for a total of $13.3 billion, according to a recent IRI report.

Government Relations Update: Candy taxes across the US

NAC has obtained a schedule and map of how sales taxes on candy are applied state-by-state across the nation. This information is courtesy of the National Confectioners Association (NCA). The sales taxes are broken down by states who treat candy as groceries, states who treat candy differently than groceries and states with no sales tax on candy at all. The schedule also defines how the states treat soda.

New locally sourced food choices at Levi's Stadium

Making the stadium experience worth the visit is one of the goals of Levi's Stadium, the San Francisco 49ers and their hospitality partner Centerplate. There are currently so many other ways to watch your favorite team that stadiums must provide unique experiences to lure people into the stands. With this in mind, there have been more than 25 new items added to the menu at Levi's for the 2015 football season.

49 new Minneapolis-St. Paul airport restaurants, shops set

Philadelphia Eagles football games at Lincoln Financial Field are about more than just the pigskin. Now, visiting the stadium is also about the pork. The Eagles and long-time food and beverage provider Aramark announced several new additions to this season's menu, one of those items being The Arista — Paesano's signature sandwich, with slow-roasted pork butt, broccoli rabe, Italian long hots and sharp provolone.

At test Target cafes, hot dogs out, salads in

For Target customers in 14 test stores, there'll be no more munching on big-box staples like hot dogs and gooey nachos while they shop this fall. Instead, they'll be able to choose from a wider array items, including "artisan style" pizza, fresh salads with ingredients such as kale and edamame and pressed juices with beet and carrot.
