NADRA Annual Meeting & Awards Ceremony - HUGE SUCCESS!
NADRA hosted their Annual Meeting and First Annual National Deck Awards Ceremony at The National Aquarium in Baltimore on Sept. 15. More than 250 guests were in attendence, consisting of the NADRA National Board of Directors, NADRA diamond-level sponsors Fiberon and Real Outdoor Living, silver-level sponsor Timbertech and bronze-level sponsor FastenMaster. Other guests included NADRA builder contestants, manufacturers, distributors, industry representatives and many other industry professionals.

Recession is officially over, but anxiety lingers

The determination that the U.S. recession ended in June 2009, made by a panel of private economists who are the arbiters of business cycles, confirms that the 18-month downturn was the longest recession of the post-World War II era.More

Trex Company announces licensing partnership with Poly-Wood, Inc.
Trex Company, the nation's largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking, railing, fencing and trim products, announced that it has entered into a licensing agreement with Syracuse, Ind.-based Poly-Wood, Inc., to develop and market stylish and comfortable outdoor living furniture. Construction materials prices edge higher in August
Prices for construction materials edged up 0.2 percent in August, according to the Sept. 16 producer price index (PPI) report by the U.S. Labor Department. Prices are 3.6 percent higher than one year ago. Nonferrous wire and cable prices increased 1.8 percent for the month and are up 8.7 percent compared to August 2009. Prices for plumbing fixtures and fittings were up 0.6 percent in August and up 1.2 percent from the same time last year. Prices for concrete products inched up 0.5 percent for the month, but are down 1.1 percent from August 2009 levels. More

According to the latest statistics from the United States' Small Business Administration (SBA,) about two-thirds of small businesses survive for at least two years while around 44 percent of small business establishments tend to last for at least four years which is in contrasts with the myth that most small businesses fail and went bankrupt within a year or so.More

Health insurers plan hikes
The Wall Street Journal
Health insurers say they plan to raise premiums for some Americans as a direct result of the health overhaul in coming weeks, complicating Democrats' efforts to trumpet their signature achievement before the midterm elections. Aetna Inc., some BlueCross BlueShield plans and other smaller carriers have asked for premium increases of between 1 percent and 9 percent to pay for extra benefits required under the law, according to filings with state regulators. These and other insurers say Congress's landmark refashioning of U.S. health coverage, which passed in March after a brutal fight, is causing them to pass on more costs to consumers than Democrats predicted.More
