Strawberry farm adjusts with drive-thru shopping
Lancaster Farming
Fifer Orchards held a drive-thru this week to keep customers connected to the family and farm that has been operating since 1919.
Because of COVID-19, Fifer’s has been limiting sales to online ordering. Customers order produce online, pick a time slot and then show up to be ushered into a parking spot and handed a bag of goodies by friendly mask-wearing staff. They never have to leave their cars and there's no hand-to-hand contact.
Spring is a busy time here, and the strawberries and asparagus are both in full swing and heavy demand right now. However, there are no pick-your-own strawberries this season.

Snuggling goats for good
Lancaster Farming
It's easy to find the lane for Batz Farm. A metal goat topper sits on the mailbox with "Batz" etched into it. And goats are what Batz Farm does best.
Mike and Kim Batz started Kid Snuggles for Kid Wishes last year, though Mike said that it was really Kim's brainchild.
While Mike grew up on a farm, Kim was a city girl. But now she is a full-fledged farm girl, often out in the pasture or in the barn to help the goats while they are birthing.
Because she had not grown up on a farm, Kim had the idea to get people — many of whom aren't used to farms — up close and personal with farm animals.

As temperatures rise, Canada's farmers face an uncertain future
National Observer
It's berry season in B.C.'s Fraser Valley. As the days grow long and warm, hungry consumers get ready to dig into a parade that begins with strawberries, moves on to raspberries, and is then followed by a flood of blueberries.
It's a formidable harvest, known as the "blue wave" by local producers; over 80 million kilograms of blueberries are produced each year.
