Approaching Farm Retail With Fresh Eyes
Presented by John Stanley
This session was recorded exclusively for NAFDMA, and can be purchased at a reduced price through June 22.
Please send all questions for John Stanley to Jeff@nafdma.com by June 26, and you'll receive every registrant’s questions along with John's answers the following week.
2020 is a year that we'll remember for a long time, especially with regards to farm retail. Everyone should approach farm retail with fresh eyes, as the consumer is setting the trend of "food independence." Around the world, consumers are moving away from the large supermarkets, and heading in droves to their local farm shops and farm markets. In this webinar, we'll look at 12 different techniques that we can implement as farm retailers to help us make a difference in this changing world. We'll discuss some quick fixes to implement immediately, and have a look at what the future holds as it relates to on-farm retail.
John Stanley has been a consultant and conference speaker to the farm market industry for over 40 years. With his wife Linda, he is co-owner of Chestnut Brae, an award winning sweet chestnut agri-tourism business in the South West of Australia. John travels the world several times a year and is therefore fully aware of trends as they are forming. He has the knack of being able to interpret those trends and ideas to suit the local culture, and make them relevant and easy for his audiences to implement the concepts. John is the author of several books including "Food Tourism A Practical Guide to Marketing" and "Just About Everything You Need to Know About Retailing." John has worked independently with several NAFDMA members in the past and is a regular visitor to the USA and Canada.

Caneberry Pricing Survey
NAFDMA
Researchers at the North Carolina State University, in collaboration with the North American Raspberry & Blackberry Association (NARBA) and the University of Arkansas are conducting a survey to learn more about caneberry pricing and retail strategies for 2020, as well as the impacts of COVID-19. Information collected in the survey will be used to gain a better understanding of the marketing, pricing, and sales strategies currently being used by caneberry producers across the United States and Canada. Results will be published in the North American Raspberry and Blackberry Association's (NARBA) member newsletter. A report will also be emailed to all participants who request this option.
The survey should only take around 10 minutes to complete. Your participation is completely voluntary. Your responses will be recorded anonymously and no identifying personal information will be collected within the survey. You are free to refuse to participate in the research and to stop completing the survey at any time.
Thank you for your participation!

Virtual winery tours are bringing wine country to you
The Washington Post
The pitch seemed too good to be true. A video graphics firm specializing in virtual-reality exhibits and "minds-on experiences" was offering to produce virtual tours of wineries, for no charge.
"I honestly thought there was a catch to it, you know, like the free cruise phone calls you get," says Pennie Haase, national marketing director for Alexander Valley Vineyards in California's Sonoma County.

There will likely be no International Cherry Pit Spitting competition or any U-pick opportunities at the Tree-Mendus Fruit Farm this summer.

On a recent weekend, Anishinaabe chef Joseph Shawana headed out with his wife and son to harvest wild leeks. He knew to look for the plant's smooth, ribbon-like green leaves on the forest floor beneath the canopies of maple trees.
"They're one of the first edible plants that you can harvest during spring," said Shawana, who is from Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve located on Manitoulin Island in Ontario.
