Nominees sought for awards honoring newspaper retailers

Retailers who have demonstrated long-term cooperative efforts to sell and market newspapers are honored annually by NAA with the Tony Mineart Merchandiser of the Year Awards. The NAA Single-Copy Committee welcomes your nominations of retailers who are open to ideas such as co-promotions or newspaper-specific promotions, or of retailers who in general do the best overall and ongoing job of promoting newspapers. Nominations are due Jan. 14. More

Advertising spots by Target Corp. and Best Buy Co. Inc. were noted by Adweek as among the top commercials of Thanksgiving week. The industry journal, in its pre-Black Friday wrap-up of ads, credits Best Buy and agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky for an ad that finds real-world examples of holiday gifts that changed lives, like a tiny camera that a mother gave to her son to help him document forests in Patagonia, or a couple that met and fell in love playing "Halo." NBC, Verizon strike TV Everywhere deal

NBCU has struck a program carriage deal with Verizon FiOS that includes rights to over-the-top delivery to multiple screens. "This comprehensive agreement benefits our viewers and Verizon's FiOS TV customers by making programming available across NBCUniversal's vast content portfolio wherever the viewer goes on any device," said Matt Bond, executive vice president, content distribution, NBCUniversal, in a statement. Guardian's US site hits traffic high

Just more than a year after the Guardian, the newspaper often dubbed Britain's New York Times, launched a new U.S. home page, the site is pulling in record traffic. The Guardian said its U.S. traffic exceeded 11.8 million unique visitors in October, up 6 percent from last year. "This is an important milestone for the Guardian," U.S. editor-in-chief Janine Gibson said in a statement. More
