We talk about the J Curve a lot around here — picture a lower-case J. When you apply change principles to your business — new people, systems, and processes — they can initially send your business on a downward trajectory before soaring with your success. If you want to grow your company, listen carefully!
Our guest today breaks this process down into four stages of development:
- Forming: The getting to know you stage
- Storming: When conflicts arise (the bottom of the J)
- Norming: Common goals are defined, an agreement is reached
- Performing: Working toward a common goal and looking forward

Concerns about contracting COVID-19 has caused a run on supplies.
Concerns over contracting the coronavirus has created a run on face masks, causing a problem for some construction businesses.
Joe King, owner of 1st Patriot Enterprising in Evansville, Ind. has seen the issue first hand. His painting company uses the masks every day, but he is one of a number of business owners seeing their supplies running out. "Anyone involved in drywall or painting, will constantly need a protective mask of some kind," King told a local NBC news station.

Levco Builders
Remodelers don't get what it is like to have their home remodeled by others. We can only imagine what it would be like, then be empathetic and usually be on the defense.
Levco is dedicated to making the experience better all the time. It is hard for a client to measure what great remodeling is all about, because they rarely have had remodeling done by two different remodeling contractors. Each experience is unique. Referrals and repeat clients are the only measurement of success that we know. Making clients raging into fans is the goal here.

Joe Coulombe, founder of Trader Joe's, died recently.
I am not a shopper, but going to Trader Joe's is a different experience than going to most grocery stores. In fact, doing so is an "experience," as it's not just a place to buy things.
An obituary by Neil Genzligner in the New York Times this past Sunday caught my eye. There are a lot of lessons in it. Here are some of them.
In the mid-1960's Mr. Coulombe owned a modest chain of convenience stores in the Los Angeles area, Pronto Markets, but began to realize he couldn't compete with better-financed convenience chains like 7-Eleven.

The NAHB lauds the rule as a "win" for the small business community and the Associated Builders and Contractors applauded the rule.
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) released a final rule clarifying the standard of determining whether two employers are joint employers of a group of workers under the National Labor Relations Act. The NLRB's final rule restores the standard that had been applied for decades prior to the organization's 2015 ruling in the Browning-Ferris Industries case.
In its 2015 decision involving Browning-Ferris Industries of California, the NLRB ruled that two or more entities are joint employers of a single workforce if they are both employers within the meaning of the common law and they share or co-determine those matters governing the essential terms and conditions of employment. As a result of the decision, the NLRB weighed whether an employer exercised control over terms and conditions of employment indirectly through an intermediary in its evaluation of joint employer qualification.

As cases continue to increase in North America, it's time to plan for how the virus may affect your business, your employees, and your clients.
Discovered cases of novel coronavirus COVID-19 are beginning to increase across North America. As the virus continues to spread, Remodelers Advantage suggests it is time to think about how the virus may affect your business, employees, and clients. While there is no vaccine or antiviral medications for the virus, many of those infected by the virus will have non-threatening complications. However, the virus is still highly contagious and it is important to take as many preventative steps as possible.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has issued interim guidance for businesses and employers. The CDC recommends actively encouraging sick employees to stay home. This may mean implementing flexible sick-leave policies, and plans for potential absenteeism.
