Rising home prices and sales of existing homes have boosted recent remodeling activity, while major life-stage events for the nation's two largest demographic cohorts will continue to drive demand in the next decade. Those are the findings of two recent analyses by the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University. As the nation's housing stock undergoes a gradual transfer of generational ownership, remodelers can expect sustained but fluctuating growth for the foreseeable future.

During the past few years, more and more remodelers have been hiring salespeople and asking the same question: How should I pay them?
That’s a good question, to which there are probably as many answers as there are salespeople. A few companies pay 100 percent salary, others pay 100 percent commission. Most companies combine the two, paying a portion of the salesperson’s wages in salary and the balance in commission.

Pro Remodeler
Efflorescence is basically salt that has been pulled by water to the surface of brick or stone masonry. When the water evaporates, it leaves a white deposit that has a salty color and texture.
There are natural water-soluble salts in mortar and also some small amounts of salts from the clays that make up brick. When water gets into a brick wall, those salts can dissolve. Natural forces, such as the sun shining on the brick, pull the salt-laden water to the surface.
