The United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Pilot Credit program has announced the newly available Lead Risk Reduction Pilot Credit. This pilot credit specifically focuses on lead in paint, dust, soil and water. All building owners applying for this credit must perform lead hazard screens as well as drinking water tests, and use certified renovation firms.

Homeowners unable or unwilling to sell their current homes are deciding to refurbish them instead. Moreover, they are undertaking bigger projects and spending more on furnishings and materials. Surveys taken nine years apart indicate that homeowners remain interested in adding value to their homes when remodeling, even after their homes' prices suffered during the Great Recession.
"The rating for importance of information on the 'impact on my home's value' actually went up marginally from before the recession to today," said Fred Miller, president of Consumer Specialists, a Germantown, Tennessee-based research firm and a former leader of the Home Improvement Research Institute.
