For many Americans the thought of lobbying their elected officials is daunting. Yet, officials need to hear from their constituents in order to fully do their job. This webinar will help you understand how to make your voice heard and be an advocate for remodelers and small businesses. The course will go over how to succinctly present an issue, how to make “the ask,” and how to follow up to get a response. Grassroots mobilization will also be covered, as well as enhancing your voice through coalitions. You will also learn how to use the NARI website to identify your elected officials and communicate with them.
The webinar will be led by three former elected officials:
The Honorable Tim Hutchinson
Former U.S. Senator and Congressman
The Honorable Charlie Bass
Former U.S. Congressman
The Honorable Albert Wynn

Erika Taylor writes: Thinking about that idea from the perspective of remodeling, I would say, “Women in the industry? Buy!”
The share of women working in the trades has remained depressingly stagnant over the past decade, yet something else has changed, something that can’t be as easily measured.
It’s a consciousness.
“In the last three years, the number of phone calls I receive, particularly from the residential sector, has exponentially increased,” says Amy James Neel.

Kyle Diamond writes: Last year my company, New Dimension Construction, began restoring the exterior envelope of a neo-colonial home, in Millbrook, New York. The scope of work included tearing off an existing wood-shingle roof, replacing windows and upgrading the siding and trim with more-durable materials. The house was only 28 years old, but poor trim detailing had caused the exterior cladding and windows to prematurely fail on many parts of the home.

Building energy codes are not developed by the U.S. Department of Energy; they are developed through two independent entities: the International Code Council (for residential and commercial buildings) and ASHRAE (for commercial buildings). The public can participate in either of these processes; DOE is statutorily required to participate in both of them. That said, let’s examine each process in more detail.

Small businesses and startups may be sitting on an untapped talent goldmine. A staggering 87 percent of the more than 26,000 professionals surveyed earlier this year at LinkedIn said they wanted to work at a company of 200 employees or less.
