Boston ends bid for 2024 Olympics; USOC wants another city

Boston will not bid for the 2024 Olympics, but another U.S. city just might. The USOC is withdrawing the bid that it first announced Jan. 8, after Boston mayor Marty Walsh said that he would not sign a document on Monday that could put taxpayers at risk if there are cost overruns. The USOC "would very much" like to have another U.S. city bid for the 2024 Olympics, USOC CEO Scott Blackmun said in a statement.More

RFPs and the Bid Process to be topic of discussion for CSEE Fall 2015 Module
The NASC recently announced the topic of discussion for the CSEE Fall 2015 module, RFPs and the Bid Process. The purpose of this session is to learn best practices in the bid process. NASC membership is required, and participants may register for $350 per person. More

Large Large Market Sports Commissions to meet in St. Louis
The 2015 Large Market Sports Commission Meetings are scheduled for Sept. 24-25 in St. Louis, and will be hosted by the St. Louis Sports Commission. Registration fee includes all meals outlined in the meeting schedule as well as the Cardinals vs. Brewers ticket and dinner at Busch Stadium on Thursday night. The St. Louis Sports Commission has secured a Busch Stadium party room for the group. More

2017 BMX World Championships in Rock Hill, South Carolina

The city of Rock Hill, South Carolina announced the Novant Health BMX Supercross Track has been chosen as the site of the 2017 BMX World Championships by Union Cycliste Internationale. The competition days will occur July 26-30, 2017, with official training held on July 24-25, 2017. The event in Rock Hill is expected to bring an estimated 3,000 amateur participants and an estimated 300 professional athletes from over 40 countries.More

USA Volleyball brings 2016 girls' junior national qualifier for girls 18 and under to Columbus

USA Volleyball and the Ohio Valley Region will host one of 16 qualifiers held across the country for high school's top volleyball players. The Girls' Junior National Qualifier in Columbus will be held Jan. 29-31 in Hall D of the Greater Columbus Convention Center. This brand-new event will utilize four hotels downtown totaling 2,400 room nights for the weekend. More

Dallas selected to host 2016 North American Gay Volleyball Association Championships

The North American Gay Volleyball Association has announced that the Dallas Sports Commission and the City of Dallas will host the 2016 NAGVA Championships at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas. The event is scheduled to take place May 27-29, 2016. The 2016 NAGVA Championships will be the 10th LGBT sporting event hosted by Dallas since 2004. More

The event will be held at Presque Isle State Park, and is hosted by and benefits Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania. The Duathlon consists of a 5K run, followed by a 20K bike ride, then another 5K run. Smoltz addresses Tommy John 'epidemic' in Hall speech

Rising demographic bolsters NCAA rosters
Year after year, more students than ever before are participating in NCAA athletics. The climb to more than 472,000 college athletes has been sure and steady, with 12 percent growth occurring during the most recent six-year period. Rocky Top Sports World in Gatlinburg, Tennessee is celebrating one year open, and the sports complex has exceeded its first year projections. There were 44 different multi-day sporting events held there, 69 percent more than anticipated, bringing in about $17.5 million dollars. The original estimate was $10 million.More
