Brett Favre is again a champion — a 6A state champ in Mississippi

For those who are still concerned that Brett Favre might one day return to the NFL to give it another go playing quarterback, you probably shouldn't worry about it anymore. Favre, after all, is back in high school now and apparently doing quite well. Favre actually is the offensive coordinator for Oak Grove High School in Mississippi, and recently, the Warriors beat Tupelo 14-7 to win the 6A state title, Oak Grove's first-ever championship.

We've likely all seen the YouTube videos that populate our social media feeds: Teenage boys conspire to help a younger teammate with Autism make his first-ever touchdown; a gymnasium of students rallies as the team manager is tossed a jersey and told to warm up. Florida's Clay High athletes are carving out achievements in a number of arenas

Florida's Clay High School has been one of the county's more successful schools in terms of athletics. The school boasts a 2001 softball state title, plus a wrestling program that regularly finishes in the top five in the state and won a state title in 2004. As of press time, the football team had also made it to the fourth round of the state playoffs after winning a district title. Individually, Clay has produced numerous athletes who have excelled at both collegiate and professional levels.

USA Track and Field names the Nike Oregon Project's Mary Cain 'Youth Athlete of the Year'

Mary Cain, the 17-year-old high school senior who set the track world on fire, was named "Youth Athlete of the Year" by USA Track and Field. Cain, the youngest athlete ever to represent Team USA at the World Track & Field Championships, was honored last month as Female Rising Star at the IAAF World Athletics Gala in Monaco. She reached the World Championship finals in the 1,500 meters and set seven U.S. high school records and five U.S. junior records in 2013.

It's not often that you hear a high-school-aged girl say they're not afraid of being elbowed in the face. "I got hit pretty hard last night and I was good," said Indiana's Carmel High School junior girls basketball player Carrie Larson. Players on the team have gained a new sense of security and confidence playing physical games thanks to new custom mouthguards developed right here in Carmel, said girls basketball assistant coach Joe Stuelpe.
