NSPS will be holding its Spring 2014 meetings and Student Competition finals in conjunction with the CLSA/NALS Joint Conference in San Diego. The NSPS schedule will begin with the Student Competition on Sunday, April 13, followed by NSPS Committee meetings on Monday, NSPS Board of Governors on Tuesday, and NSPS Board of Directors on Wednesday. The details are still being worked out for the Committee schedule.

FIG Young Surveyors to Meet in San Diego

After the successful 1st FIG Young Surveyors European Meeting held this past October in Lisbon, Portugal, in which 150 young surveyors from 32 countries attended, the FIG Young Surveyors Network is organizing the 1st FIG Young Surveyors North American Meeting.
The meeting will be held in conjunction with the 2014 California/Nevada Surveyors Conference and the annual NSPS Student Competition at the Town & Country Hotel in San Diego. The YS meeting will be held April 14-15. Stay tuned for more information.

NOAA's Hydrographic Services Review Panel meets Feb. 25-26 in New York City. Those interested in hydrography and NOAA's program are invited to participate in the various break-out sessions.
House passes bill including land inventory
NSPS
The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 2954, the Public Access and Lands Improvement Act. The bill takes a first step toward a cadastre or land inventory of Federal lands. The bill (section 401) calls for "a centralized database of all lands identified as suitable for disposal by Resource Management Plans for lands under the administrative jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management" that is easily accessible to the public on a website of the Bureau. The database required under this subsection shall be updated and maintained to reflect changes in the status of lands identified for disposal under the administrative jurisdiction of the Bureau. NSPS supports a Federal land inventory, particularly as set forth in another bill, H.R. 916, the Federal Land Asset Inventory Reform Act.
