NSPS is interested in your perspective regarding what would attract you to attend a national conference sponsored by NSPS, and perhaps co-sponsored with another organization as has been done for the past two years with MAPPS.
Please use this link and take five minutes to respond to a few questions, and assist NSPS in gauging interest.

Q: What is meant by "contract term" in Table A, Item 20 in the 2016 ALTA-NSPS survey standards? Colorado statute C.R.S. 13-80-105 addresses the limitations of actions against land surveyors. How does this fit into the "contract term," and what else needs to be considered?
A: The "contract term" as used in the ALTA/NSPS requirements is standard wording in the insurance world, and it refers to the term of the contract between the surveyor and the client. It is addressing when the surveyor's professional liability insurance must be in effect (during the term of the surveyor/client contract). It has nothing whatsoever to do with the length of the surveyor's liability, which is controlled by state statutes of liability and repose.
NSPS Representative Wendy Lathrop, PLS, CFM

A recent Congressional Research Service (CRS) report found that toll roads have a long history in the United States going back to the early days of the republic. During the 18th century, most were local roads or bridges that could not be built or improved with local appropriations alone. During the tolling boom of the late 1940s and early 1950s, the prospect of toll revenues allowed states to build thousands of miles of limited-access highways much sooner than would have been the case with traditional funding.

"The young surveyor needs to be educated," says Al Pepling, a respected western Pennsylvania surveyor (with five decades of experience). As Al notes, education takes on many forms — and so does (or should) the surveying profession.
You might recognize Al's name; he authored many helpful product reviews in surveying publications over the years. When xyHt launched several years ago, Al called to say he felt we were taking the right approach in promoting a more encompassing view of surveying.

Inside GNSS
Real-time position accuracy, achievable in dense urban areas using low-cost equipment, is currently limited to tens of meters. If this could be improved to five meters or better, a host of potential applications would benefit. These include situation awareness of emergency, security and military personnel and vehicles; emergency caller location, mobile mapping, tracking vulnerable people and valuable assets, intelligent mobility, location-based services and charging, augmented reality; and enforcement of curfews, restraining orders and other court orders.
