Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced increased funding from the 2014-2015 State Budget for the highly successful New York Youth Works Program. Funding has been expanded to $10 million for each of the program's four years and will help young people find job-readiness training, get into the workplace, and succeed in their jobs. In 2012, the program incentivized 1,270 New York businesses to hire 12,866 at-risk young people across New York. More

Senate Republicans once again block Paycheck Fairness Act

As expected, the Paycheck Fairness Act died in the Senate — just like it did in 2010 and 2012 — due to a Republican filibuster. A motion to move forward with the bill fell seven votes short of the 60 votes needed, with all Republicans voting against it, joined by Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.. Reid supports the bill, but voted no in order to give himself the option to request another vote on it. More
