New York State jobless rate falls to lowest level in more than 5 years

New York State’s unemployment rate fell by 0.2 percent to 6.7 percent, its lowest level since December 2008, according to preliminary figures released today by the New York State Department of Labor. In addition, the state’s private sector job count grew by 2,500 in April 2014. This was New York State’s 17th consecutive monthly gain in private sector jobs, which has raised the state’s overall private sector job count to 7,543,000, an all-time high.
