The health care law could prove to be a boon for temporary staffing companies as employers outsource jobs to sidestep complex requirements for medical insurance. But some experts say the Affordable Care Act's exceptions for temporary employees could undercut the goal of expanding coverage to more American workers.

Buffalo job market improved in February

February employment data from New York showed an increase in private-sector jobs in the Buffalo area. The monthly report said the Buffalo-Niagara Falls market picked up 3,000 private-sector jobs, an increase of 0.7 percent, compared to a year ago. Broken down by sector, the report said management jobs increased by 1,100, or 8.7 percent, while leisure and hospitality was up by 2,100 jobs, or 4 percent.

Department of Labor releases final January and preliminary February job counts and unemployment rates

The State Labor Department has released final January 2013 private sector job count numbers and preliminary February 2013 job count and unemployment rates as provided by the U.S. Department of Labor. The final January 2013 private sector job count for New York State was validated and revised upward to 7,418,500, an all-time high. Included in this number are approximately 300,000 jobs added to New York's economy since the start of Governor Cuomo's administration, making New York one of only seven states to have regained all jobs lost during the recession.

Survey: Nearly one-third of employers now hiring college graduates for jobs that were primarily held by high school graduates
Employers are not only looking for educated labor to fill high skill positions, but to fill traditionally lower skill jobs as well. Thirty-two percent of hiring managers and human resource professionals said they are hiring more employees with college degrees for positions that were historically held by high school graduates.

March staffing up 2.4 percent from a year ago

Staffing employment in March is up 2.4 percent from the same month last year, according to the ASA Staffing Index. The index value for the month of March is 91, indicating that staffing employment is slightly up from February (1.7 percent higher).
