The future of work is speeding toward HR; Is innovation keeping up?
Human Resource Executive
Last year was a record-setting year for HR technology in both venture capital investment and adoption. WorkTech tracked a new high of $17.9 billion in global HR technology investment across 374 deals while spending increased aggressively. And conditions in early 2022 look ripe for even more acceleration of HR tech adoption and investment. Here’s a look at two reasons for the acceleration along with a dive into what type of technologies are headed your way.

5 things managers can do to help virtual teams thrive
Studiolo Secondari
Linda Secondari writes:
One of my own New Year’s resolutions is to continue to work out with my personal trainer once a week. Rather than this happening in a gym, I’ve actually been working with my trainer from the comfort of my living room, live on zoom.
The way we adapted to this new training environment brings to mind the myriad of challenges managers and teams have faced with the seismic shift to working from home ushered in by the pandemic. With little or no prior experience working in remote setups, managers were forced to quickly get up to speed and focus on productivity. Thinking the situation temporary, few companies invested in training staff and managers on how to work remotely.

How can you make the most of 2022? Focus on what you can control
HR Daily Advisor
There’s a lot going on in our lives and around us, and much of it we can’t control.
You’ve heard that before, yet year after year many of us stress out trying to control too much or worrying about those uncontrollables, no matter how pointless it is – not to mention how damaging it can be to our mental and physical health.

Could the Great Resignation force techies to get career agents?
TechCrunch
The Great Resignation led tech workers to realize their power. Salaries are increasing, demand for talent is high and if you’re an engineer at Stripe, there are probably at least three investors who would back your pre-seed company before it even has a kernel of an idea.
However, the hiring market’s heat doesn’t make it any easier to navigate. If you’re the creative director at Shopify or the head of product at Thrasio, you’re probably deluged with job offers.

3 ways to keep L&D relevant as burnout reaches new levels
HR Dive
It's a turbulent time to be a learning professional, sources told HR Dive.
As parent employees grapple with school closures due to omicron variant outbreaks, and workers deal with pressures inherent to losing co-workers to the Great Resignation, L&D may find itself in a mire, surrounded by competing needs and expectations.

Using virtual reality for remote hiring
SHRM
Pandemic restrictions can make it difficult to hire employees who have never had the opportunity to visit the physical location where they will work. Particularly in a competitive hiring environment, employers want to do everything they can to provide potential employees with a good feel for what it would be like to work for the company.
Fortunately, as with many challenges facing employers during the pandemic, technology can help. Virtual reality (VR) technology allows candidates to experience what it would be like to work in certain jobs or at specific organizations. Once the employees are hired, the employer can use VR to provide training in near-real-life situations.

3 ways to make your office friendlier to hybrid meetings
Associations Now
Developing a work setup in which everyone is on equal footing can be challenging in normal circumstances. But an environment where some people are in the office and others aren’t? It threatens to get complicated, fast.
For one thing, there is a real risk that workers in the office may get an outsized amount of attention compared with remote workers—a problem Workplace Intelligence Managing Partner Dan Schawbel noted was an issue for remote workers long before the pandemic.
But with a larger percentage of companies having remote employees, it’s no walk in the park for in-office personnel either, with a recent New York Times story referring to it as “the worst of both worlds.”

How HR can leverage automated content generation tools
SHRM
Content generation tools are an emerging way for content creators of all kinds to get an artificial intelligence (AI) assist. These tools—like Jarvis, Writesonic, Concured and more—are being used by news organizations and others to automatically generate content. The technology is still somewhat new and somewhat clunky, but it holds promise. In fact, organizations like the Associated Press have been using this technology for a few years now to generate content of various kinds.
But journalists and content creators aren't the only ones who can benefit from this technology by finding efficiencies and streamlining repetitive tasks. There are opportunities for HR, as well.
