The Great Resignation is turning into the great regret — employers are joining in too
Inc.
When management professor Anthony Klotz coined the term the "Great Resignation" in May 2021, he unleashed a tsunami of think pieces. For the past year, experts have been arguing over who was quitting and why and how companies should respond. While they've been chattering away, quit rates have stayed at historical highs, and even managers (and pop stars) have joined the Great Resignation.

DOL publishes independent contractor proposed rule
U.S. Small Business Administration,
On October 13, 2022, the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (DOL) proposed a rule that would determine whether a worker is an independent contractor or an employee under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). To determine whether a worker is an employee or an independent contractor, the employer must analyze whether the worker is economically dependent on the employer for work or is in business for themselves.

Meta, Amazon, who's next? Technology layoffs gather steam
HCM Technolgy Report
A wave of layoffs seems to be gathering steam in the technology sector as companies tighten their belts ahead of a widely expected economic downturn. Among the brand names, Amazon is reportedly letting some 10,000 employees go, while Meta plans to dismiss about 11,000.
To one degree or another, both Amazon and Meta have their fingers in the HR technology pie. Amazon’s Alexa is able to interface with a variety of ERP and HRIS systems, while Meta’s Workplace aims to provide a “Facebook-like experience” that combines chat, video, groups and a company’s intranet with the work tools already in use.

The tech workforce isn't budging on remote work
CIODive
Apple made headlines in August, merely by trying to coax workers back to the office three days per week, an effort that yielded public pushback by employees.
Other companies are doing the same, according to the report. Nearly 7 in 10 employers are focused on future plans for a hybrid work environment and are offering employees back-to-office incentives.
While 9 in 10 Dice respondents indicate that remote work is preferable to being in the office full-time, the numbers don’t add up.

How to build a people-first culture of connection
Business Matters
When the COVID-19 pandemic sent workers home, many expected the shift to remote work would be temporary. It appears they were wrong. The latest studies confirm remote or hybrid work is trending as permanent. Statistics show that 74 percent of U.S. companies already have or are planning to put in place a permanent hybrid work model. Work has changed forever, meaning companies must adapt.
