Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) has launched a Call for Proposals (CFP) effective January 23, 2018 for the Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities (OF) program. The call will remain open until March 6, 2018. Please consult ESDCs "Funding" page for more information on the CFP and the application process.
As ESDC focuses on modernizing and simplifying the Grants and Contribution processes, applicants will be able to apply online for funding by way of the Department's Grants and Contributions Online System (GCOS).
Important! If you have not already registered for GCOS, we encourage you to begin the registration process as soon as possible as it may take up to two weeks to complete account registration.

Tourism in Toronto had a record-breaking year in 2017, with 43.7 million visitors welcomed to the region. For the first time, overnight visits in Toronto, Canada's Downtown, surpassed the 15 million mark (15.5 million), joined by 28.2 million same-day travellers. The expansion of regional bus service by Ontario Northland Transportation Commission (ONTC) "paves the way" for a bright future in passenger rail, said two citizens' advocacy groups.
All Aboard Northern Ontario and All Aboard Ontario (formerly Transport Action Ontario) called the province's strategy to deliver five-a-day-per-week bus service to several underserviced communities "the first sign of hope" for a fully-integrated bus and rail regional public transportation system.

Union Station, the country's busiest transportation hub, will continue to be a construction zone for several more months, and a report from city council says the ongoing revitalization project will be over budget by more than $22 million.
Renovations at the station, which were scheduled to be completed early this year, are now likely to continue through 2018, according to the report obtained by CBC Toronto. The entire project was initially supposed to be completed in 2015 but repeated delays pushed the timeline back to early 2018.

This winter, Calgary has expanded its use of beet juice as a de-icing alternative to road salt. While slightly more expensive than salt, the mixture is more efficient, less toxic and less corrosive.
Nevertheless, despite a galaxy of relatively benign de-icing agents such as beet juice, this year cities across Canada will stubbornly continue to coat their roads with literal mountains of salt. Although salt remains the single cheapest way to keep snow and ice at bay, the economics make much less sense when considering the awesome scale of the damage wrought every year by the salt truck.
