Europe and the Americas tourism rebounded in 2021, but still below 2019 pre-pandemic level, WTO report

Global tourism experienced a 4% upturn in 2021, compared to 2020 (415 million versus 400 million). However, international tourist arrivals (overnight visitors) were still 72% below the pre-pandemic year of 2019, according to preliminary estimates by United Nations World Tourism Organization, WTO. This follows on from 2020, the worst year on record for tourism when international arrivals decreased by 73%.

TEAR DOWN THE WALL: IATA urges removal of all travel barriers

The International Air Transport Association has urged governments to accelerate relaxation of travel restrictions as COVID-19 continues to evolve from the pandemic to endemic stage. According to IATA, that includes removing all travel barriers (including quarantine and testing) for those fully vaccinated with a WHO-approved vaccine.
