Contract talks are to resume today for a third day in a row between Ontario’s public elementary teachers and the government.
Friday is the deadline the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario has given to reach a deal with the government or the union will ramp up strikes next week.

Elementary school students in the Waterloo Region District School Board will miss three days of school next week as teachers' unions continue strikes around the province.
Unless a tentative deal is reached between the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation or the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario and the government, elementary schools will be closed on Feb. 4, 6 and 7.

The Region of Waterloo has come to a tentative agreement with the union representing Grand River Transit employees, but it's not time to celebrate yet for dispirited commuters.
The tentative agreement was announced at 7:02 p.m., with the union's ratification vote scheduled for Jan. 30. Regional council will then need to ratify the deal, but there's no timeline set.

The virus has infected thousands of people, killed more than 100, and has left the Chinese government with no choice but to expand drastic travel restrictions. Meanwhile, tourism in other areas of the world is taking a massive hit due to political and economic unrest in some countries.
