On Monday, February 17 the OMCA staff will be spending time with their families but will return to the office bright and early on Tuesday, February 18. We wish all our members a happy Family Day.

The Ontario Transportation Expo is coming up fast and we will once again need buses to help shuttle delegates between the conference at the Delta Hotel on Dixon Rd and the Trade Show at the International Centre, Hall 5. Contributors will get recognition in exhibition signage and literature. For those interested in donating their coach services, please contact laura@omca.com. Any and all assistance would be much appreciated.

Red Deer’s 2019 Canada Winter Games is the only event that could bring home three awards from an upcoming Canadian sports tourism awards event.
The Games were nominated as one of three finalists in three categories for the 2020 Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) Prestige Awards.
The Games could win the CSTA Canadian Sports Event of the Year Award (with a budget greater than $1 million), CSTA Sport Event Legacy of the Year Award, and 2019 Canada Games Host Society board chair Lyn Radford was nominated for the CSTA Sport Event Volunteer of the Year.

Canada has no immediate plan to impose stronger border controls or isolation protocols in response to the coronavirus outbreak, but the rules could change at any time based on the evolution of the disease, Canada's Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam said recently.
Asked by reporters during a teleconference if Canada would follow the U.S. and some European nations in barring entry to people coming from China, Tam said current measures and guidelines now in place are sufficient because the risk to Canada remains low.

The Ontario government is moving forward with its plan to widen and twin Highway 17 between Kenora and the Manitoba border.
On Wednesday, Ontario’s Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney and Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines and Indigenous Affairs Greg Rickford signed a memorandum of understanding with Niiwin Wendaanimok, a group of four First Nations with interests in the area.

An electric bus could soon be hitting Saskatoon streets as part of a pilot project that may eventually see the city's transit fleet go green.
The pilot is partially funded by a grant provided from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Green Municipal Fund, and will see the city lease an electric bus and charging system for a trial period of one year.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said 135 charges have been laid since Jan. 1 for drug or alcohol-related driving offences — that amounts to three to four drivers in the GTA every day.
