OMCA
OMCA recently sent out a link to our research survey, conducted by the University of Guelph, and we kindly ask for all delegates who attended the OMCA Marketplace in 2014 (Ottawa, ON) to help us by contributing your feedback.
The University of Guelph is undertaking research to determine the value of the 2014 OMCA Marketplace (Ottawa, ON) to delegates, now that you have had a full year to follow up on leads. This research is being funded by OMCA. This survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Your participation is voluntary.
Delegates from 2014 can access the survey link and guidelines by referring to the emails that were sent on Feb. 4 and Feb. 18. For assistance, please contact us at info@omca.com.

Ontario is asking for arbitration to try to recover over $33 million in unpaid fines levied against snowplow operators in recent years for failing to adequately clear highways.
Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca said companies contracted by the government to keep highways clear of snow and ice have many ways to appeal any fines imposed by the ministry when they don't do the job properly or fast enough.

Niagara Falls Review
The city will spend $250,000 to help Niagara Falls Tourism continue to market the destination to Americans.
The $250,000, which will come out of the city's casino-hosting reserve fund, will leverage an additional $650,000 from hospitality industry partners for targetted marketing campaign. Council also provides $360,000 to Niagara Falls Tourism as a fee-for-service.

MP Charlie Angus has written to the Competition Bureau asking them to investigate gas prices in Northern Ontario.
Angus, in a release issued by his office, stated that he has written to the Competition Bureau in the past and has "been frustrated by their unwillingness to look into the question of price gouging in the North."

Drivers now have a new tool to help them decide whether to hit the open road through Southwestern Ontario on blustery winter days.

A new study by two Canadian doctors is calling on improvements to winter road safety across the nation after comparing our traffic fatality rates to countries with similar winter weather.
The report by the Canadian Medical Association Journal showed "adverse road conditions in cold weather contribute to 12 per cent of traffic fatalities and injuries" and that Canada had twice as many population-adjusted traffic deaths as Sweden.

Hamilton hotel owners are looking at charging a two-per cent fee on local hotel bills to help market Hamilton as an international destination.
But their offer comes with the catch that the city be willing to pony up some money too.
The Hospitality Hamilton partner steering committee told councillors that many of the city's hotel owners are willing to add two per cent to the cost of a hotel stay to put toward a destination marketing plan.

The city's new tourism organization will hire a full-time employee tasked with helping to attract more visitors and events to North Bay.
Jake Lacourse, president of the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce, said,
"This is a dedicated, full-time position," noting the successful candidate will work for Tourism North Bay on behalf of its members, including local hotel operators, restaurants, events, attractions and other partners.
