Ontario licence plate renewal fees, stickers to be scrapped

The Ontario government is scrapping licence plate renewal fees and corresponding stickers for passenger vehicles, light duty trucks, motorcycles and mopeds effective March 13.
The measure will save many Ontario drivers about $120 a year.

Ontario Parks seeking innovative recreational experience ideas

Ontario Parks is on the lookout for ways to add recreation experiences for people to enjoy at their parks, while supporting local businesses, jobs and the provincial park system. Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks David Piccini revealed this in a request for information online press release from Feb. 15. Ontario Parks is inviting businesses, non-profits, community groups and entrepreneurs to share their ideas for a chance to procure funding for their idea and see it in action at a nearby park. Interested parties are asked to apply via the Ontario tenders’ portal by March 4 at 11 a.m.

Ontario government removing tolls on Highways 412 and 418

The Ontario government is restoring fairness and cutting costs for drivers and businesses in Durham Region by permanently removing tolls on Highways 412 and 418, effective April 5, 2022.
“We have heard the people of Durham loud and clear and we agree that the tolls imposed on Highways 412 and 418 by the previous government are wrong and unfair,” said Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario. “That’s why we are removing the tolls on these Highways so that people and businesses have more travel options and hard-earned money in their pockets.”

Cold weather creating better winter road access to First Nations in Ontario's north

Winter roads in northern Ontario continue to be hampered by changing climates, but this season has been better than the previous two, according to some of the people who work on them.
For several weeks each winter, tractor-trailers make their way into remote, fly-in First Nations via a series of crossings over frozen lakes and streams, delivering fuel, building supplies and other large loads that would be difficult and expensive to transport by air.

The Ottawa VIP Program offers tour operators $50 per room night at a qualifying hotel, when accompanied by a paid admission to an eligible attraction. There are no minimum room night requirements. Hotels and attractions must be paid by the tour operator and proof of payment is required for the funding. Travel must be completed by June 30, 2022.

Recently, at Trinity Common, Mayor John Tory announced a new business supports campaign to help make small business owners and operators more aware of grants, incentives, training and other available resources as they recover from the pandemic. Small businesses, including restaurants, are encouraged to take advantage of these resources, which include access to one-on-one virtual assistance, COVID-19 guidelines, and links to other financial resources and relief measures.

City, partners seek federal funds for businesses impacted by Ambassador Bridge blockade

The City of Windsor and local partners are asking the federal government to offer financial support to local businesses impacted by the Ambassador Bridge blockade.
The city, the Windsor-Essex Chamber of Commerce, and Tourism Windsor Essex & Pelee Island wrote a letter to the minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario asking for supports similar to those offered to Ottawa businesses following protests in that city.
