One of the most prominent currency-markets gurus says the Canadian dollar will plunge to levels not seen in more than 15 years as trade turmoil intensifies.
John R. Taylor, who formerly headed what was then the world's biggest currency hedge fund, says his analysis of statistical patterns projects the loonie to weaken about 20 per cent to $1.60 per U.S. dollar by the end of next year. It hasn’t been that weak since August 2002.

Sarnia Observer
Travellers using U.S. money will pay a quarter more at the tolls on the Canadian side of the Blue Water Bridge beginning April 1, while those handing over Canadian currency at toll booths on the U.S. side will pay a quarter less.
The international crossing is shared by Michigan and Canada, and bridge operators on both sides recently announced results of regular reviews of the currency exchange rate.

Montreal saw an increase in tourism in 2017 based on Tourism Montreal's latest annual report.
Over 11.1 million tourists visited Montreal in 2017, a 5.1 per cent increase from 2016.
Tourists spent 9.7 per cent more compared to last year, spending more than $4 billion on business and leisure in the city.
Tourism Montreal states that Montreal was listed as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Canada last year.

Ontario is investing in a record number of festivals and events to boost the growing tourism sector, create jobs and offer residents and tourists more reasons to discover and explore the province.
Daiene Vernile, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, was joined by Cristina Martins, MPP for Davenport, at the Theatre Centre, home of the Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival, to announce the recipients of Celebrate Ontario 2018. The Festival is receiving funding to support six more nights of comedy and to develop a mobile app to connect with audiences through social media, as well as provide event schedule and line-up information.

A Windsor, ON, company is cashing in on the recently approved second Ambassador Bridge span between Windsor and Detroit.
CTV News has learned TCI Titan Group has been awarded the $50 million dollar contract to build the truck customs plaza, which will be located at the foot of the existing bridge.
"As we were awarded the project, I went and looked at the history of the bridge, and being part of what I think is a very monumental and historical build," said Art Ussoletti, president of TCI Titan Group.

The ongoing lane closures at the Peace Bridge will soon been shutting down to make way for the busy summer travel season. The Peace Bridge Authority is at about the midway point of its $175 million, five-year rehab project. Currently, that means replacing the deck of the bridge, which has not been changed since it was first installed back in 1927. While work has progressed on redecking the bridge (with a price tag of about $80 million) over the last few months, the bridge has been reduced to just two lanes of traffic.

The Visit U.S. Coalition recently rolled out proposals aimed at reversing the decline in inbound international travellers to the United States.
The recommendations urge leaders in Washington, D.C., to "promote the United States" as a destination and actively welcome visitors.
Proposed measures include supporting marketing efforts and designating a senior government official to focus on tourism.

Cornwall City Council heard at their last meeting the advantages of introducing a Municipal Accommodation Tax, or hotel tax. Local hotel owners feel, however, that four per cent is a steep increase that is being introduced too quickly.
"I appreciate that the trend around the province is four per cent," said Paul Lefebvre, General Manager and Co-Owner of the Best Western Parkway Inn in Cornwall. "I would have preferred two per cent."

At its Feb. 26 meeting, council voted to apply for funds from the Community Transportation Grant Program.
This program, through the Ministry of Transportation, is designed to help develop community transportation systems, especially within communities underserved by public transportation. The grant is applicable to both long-distance and local transportation projects.
The city's community development officer, Amanda Roy, prepared a report for council providing more background on the available grant.
Roy said Ontario Northland has expanded its bus service westward and now includes Espanola, Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, White River, and "many communities in between."
