Attention Business Owners Special 90-Minute Session on Transitioning is one More Reason for Bus Operators to Register for this Year's OTE
|
   |
A special 90-minute session on Monday's program at this year's OTE is one that business owners won't want to miss. John Hotson, a marketing strategist with over 35 years of experience working in large and small organizations and founding partner of the Business Transition Alliance, will lead a discussion to help bus operators maximize the value of their business.
As business owners begin the inevitable process of transitioning their business…. whether that means selling the business outright, handing it off to family members or perhaps just stepping back and providing a guiding hand….they ultimately have to come to terms with what truly drives the value of their business. Identifying the things that build value and making that transferable to the next generation of owners can be a challenging undertaking.
During this session, scheduled for Monday April 25th at from 2:45 pm to 4:15 pm, John will review what drives value and helps a company align its behaviours and activities inside the company with the expectations and value perceptions outside the company thereby increasing the value of the business from a prospective buyer's point of view.
Attending this session will help business owners learn how value drivers are rooted in organizational routines that include the management and maintenance of key assets, building recurring revenue streams and effective resource deployment to maximize cash flow. As John puts it, "Its sounds simple, and it is. But simple does not always equal easy."

Perhaps the most striking thing about the STM's newest bus-repair garage is that it doesn’t smell like one.
The iconic smell of diesel fumes that permeates most mechanics' garages is notably absent from the Stinson centre despite hundreds of buses driving through it all day.
That's because the air is recirculated once every 15 minutes, with fresh air pumped in from the outdoors. It's one of many innovations in the Société de transport de Montréal's Stinson Garage, on Stinson St. at the corner of Montpellier Blvd. near Highway 40 in St-Laurent.

Participating hotels in Toronto and Mississauga are adding an extra charge at check-out time; a fee that goes toward promoting the two cities as tourism destinations. The charge has been met with criticism for guests not being advised of the fee and not being told that it is technically voluntary.
The Greater Toronto Hotel Association (GTHA) has been administering a Destination Marketing Programme (since 2010) collecting fees for Tourism Toronto. In 2014 it reported collecting $17.5 million for the City of Toronto.

With the federal government offering new money for transit, funding that is weighted towards big cities, this was one of the best weeks for Toronto residents in years. But a cloud hung over the celebrations, amid warnings that softening ridership figures could put a whole slate of ambitious plans at risk unless political pressure is maintained.

After being roundly criticized by Mississauga's mayor, councillors and residents, Metrolinx appears ready to fix problems created by the construction of a bus station built right next to dozens of homes.
Less than 24 hours after a public scorning by city council — which charged that Metrolinx had completely ignored the impact on residents' quality of life — Metrolinx chair Robert Prichard visited the station near Highway 403 and Erin Mills Parkway.

Finance Minister Bill Morneau recently said it may take more time for the country's economy to reap the benefits from a weaker Canadian dollar as domestic manufacturers adjust to its impact.
"Positive effects of the lower dollar may take longer to materialize, especially as our manufacturing sector adjusts after a longer period where the dollar was strong," Morneau said in a speech at an event sponsored by the Canadian Association of New York.
