Signal upgrades on the Bloor-Danforth subway line, new buses on the city's highly travelled bus routes, and repairs and upgrades that will make the city's transit system fully accessible are just some of the projects the TTC will fund with the up to $840 million that's on the way from the federal government.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in Toronto recently to announce the funding, which will come from the $3.4 billion in transit money announced in March's federal budget.

Depending on who you ask, Ontario's plans to expand the Greenbelt and manage growth will either result in unwieldy intensification or protect the environment.
"The push is for intensification. At the end of the day, what we're looking at is more condos and more townhouses. What the growth plan really does is restrict housing choice," Joe Vaccaro, executive director of the Ontario Home Builders' Association said.

Ottawa's transit commission has decided to ask the province for $3.3 million to fund a low-income transportation pass for the city's poorest — although the commission's chair is skeptical that funding will come through.
Of the 145,000 people in Ottawa who earn less than the low income cut-off — the Statistics Canada threshold beneath which individuals or families devote a larger-than-normal share of their income to necessities like food and shelter — 31,000 are transit users, according to a staff report presented to the commission.

As the Federal and Ontario governments increase their concerns for attacking climate change and improving the economy, the Northern & Eastern Ontario Rail Network is pleased to announce that support for its passenger train network is growing.
This is not surprising since increasing passenger train travel is one of the fastest ways to reduce carbon emissions and improve economic prospects in Northern Ontario.

The City of Mississauga is not following Toronto's lead when it comes to Uber.
In a 10-2 decision, Mississauga city council voted to suspend ride sharing services such as Uber X.
Under the ruling, the only way Uber X can legally operate in Mississauga is to follow the same rules in place for traditional taxis.
Just recently, Toronto's city council approved new ground transportation rules that created a new licensing category for Uber.

Compared to larger southern Ontario cities, Brantford is not a bustling hub of culture and nightlife. Although we have numerous small museums, cultural centres and historic sites, little attention is paid to them in the everyday life of most Brantfordians.
Enter Octopus Red, local marketing and design firm looking to showcase what Brantford really has to offer.
"We have a deficit of pride in our community," said Lucas Duguid, part-owner of marketing and design firm Octopus Red.

A little like the circuitous routes that aggravate riders, Brantford is caught up in a vicious circle when it come to its bus transit system.
Not enough tax dollar investment leads to unreliable service and that doesn't encourage ridership.
"Unfortunately to increase (ridership), you have to put more investment into it," Coun. Larry Kings said recently at a public information centre held at Lynden Park Mall.

A conflict over the acquisition of the former Genosha hotel that put its renovation on hold has now been resolved, say the businessmen on both sides of the issue.
The property, located at 70 King St. E., is currently owned by Richard Senechal through an Ontario numbered corporation. Initially, the plan was to sell the property to Bowood Properties, which would then renovate the former hotel into an apartment building made up of one-bedroom and bachelor units.

Cornwall Standard Freeholder
Is there a road forward on how to mend Cornwall and the Counties Tourism?
Does it even need mending at all?
Valid questions surfacing as the agency built to promote all that's great about Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry and Cornwall was delivered notice its budget will likely take an $80,000 hit in 2017.
For those catching up, the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry is currently weighing options on how to handle tourism within its six municipalities and by all appearances it looks as though it will bring this function in-house.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens believes securing the 2017 MasterCard Memorial Cup bid is proof that council's sports tourism initiatives are working.
The city's experience hosting events like the Ontario Summer Games, the FINA Diving World Series and the CARHA Hockey World Cup was part of the presentation to the CHL.
"I think that shone through, and I think the folks that were on the selection committee, who made the decision, saw that," says Dilkens. "I certainly know, based on the questions they asked; they were very detailed and very interested in Windsor and what Windsor's going to do to make this event special."

Whenever someone visits Toronto for the first time, they like to do all the touristy things. Take in a Blue Jays game, visit the CN Tower, maybe wander over to St. Lawrence Market or venture to the Toronto Island.
The same goes for professional athletes. When they have a little bit of spare time in Toronto, just like an ordinary citizen, they like to take in the sights and sounds of the city.
The Los Angeles Dodgers did that very thing ahead of their series against the Toronto Blue Jays. They spent the day simply being Toronto tourists. Nobody enjoyed their time in the Six more than Yasiel Puig.
