LEEFF is a program instituted by the Government of Canada to provide short-term liquidity assistance in the form of interest-bearing term loans to large Canadian employers who have been affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. The intent of LEEFF is to provide bridge financing to large Canadian employers to help these enterprises to preserve their employment, operations and investment activities until they can access more traditional market financing.

People will adapt to the “new norm” of travel post COVID-19, no matter how intimidating it seems at the moment, says the head of global tour operator, G Adventures. “People will travel again. We don’t yet know when, but we know that they will,” says Bruce Poon Tip, who likens the current crisis, in travel terms, to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the United States in 2001.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took another step to broaden the government’s support for small businesses, but advocates say there are still cracks in the program and companies are falling through them.
Trudeau recently announced a small change to the government’s emergency loan program. The Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA), is a $40,000 no-interest loan and was one of the Liberals first policies for small businesses dealing with the drop in sales for COVID-19. But it required businesses to have a payroll and a business bank account.

Ontario students won’t be heading back to classrooms this school year, Premier Doug Ford said recently though his education minister later suggested some students could be in class this summer to save or accumulate high school credits.
“One thing I will never do is take unnecessary risks when it comes to our children,” Ford said. “After careful consideration, after consulting with the health experts, it is clear that we cannot open schools at this time — I’m just not going to risk it.”

The mayor of the Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands (NEMI) expressed his disappointment in the answer provided by the Ontario Minister of Transportation in response to a request that the province of Ontario take the necessary steps to reopen Highway 540 and 551 to the travelling public.
Both highways have been blocked since Saturday, April 25 when Chief Linda Debassige of M’Chigeeng First Nation implemented a travel ban under which any vehicle not meeting the terms deemed to be providing essential services by her council would not be permitted to travel through M’Chigeeng on either Highway 540 or Highway 551.
