Airbnb’s tagline promise to “belong anywhere” will come with a premium price tag for visitors to Ottawa this summer.
Starting in August, a four per cent accommodation tax will be added to all Ottawa listings by the popular home rental company. It’s the first tax of its kind in Ontario, but one that was already implemented for Ottawa hotels and motels in January. It’s also one of some 350 tax agreements the online rental service already has with governments around the world, including in Quebec and British Columbia.

The summer months are a busy time for tourists coming to Sudbury. They're also an opportunity to change visitors' perception of the city.
There are a number of major events and attractions planned for this summer, including marking the 40th anniversary of the city's re-greening efforts.
The tourism industry is thriving says Meredith Armstrong, manager of tourism and culture.
In 2014, 1.2 million tourists visited Sudbury and spent $250 million.

A plan for more transportation options between Sarnia and London has received financial backing from the province.
Just shy of $1.5 million is coming from the Ministry of Transportation for a five-year "land-based transportation program," the municipalities of Sarnia, Strathroy-Caradoc and London announced recently.
Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley made the case locally in February to expand intercity bus options by applying for Community Transportation Grant cash.

There may be little the government can do to prevent American border guards from asking Canadians about past marijuana use, but there might be something travellers can do — try to stay under the radar. Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale was recently asked by members of the House of Commons public safety committee whether the government has succeeded in securing any deal with the Americans not to bar Canadians who admit to smoking pot once it is legal.
